My favorite memory: I grew up in San Francisco, so we never got snow days where we got to skip school because of bad weather. But one year in the fall, it rained for so many days straight, that when we got to the school, it was literally under a foot of water. So a few of my best friends came back to my house and we had the ultimate day at home. We watched movies, drank hot chocolate, did our nails, and read magazines.

Hi my beloved Emily, I am from a tropical country (Brazil), so I’ve never experienced the real Autumn until I went to NYC two years ago for a master program. I was so flabbergasted with all those beautiful colors that I used to spend a lot of time at Central Park sat under a “yellow” or “red” tree just staring the beauty, photographing, seeing squirrels playing on the ground, as well as paying close attention to the leaves fall. Then when I though I had seen it all I went to Catskills (upstate NY) with a couple of friends and then…. then…. and only then I realized I hadn’t seen nothing so far. In that infinity of astonishing colors I felt myself (literally) inside a painting or a calendar dream. Those types of calendars my mom used to hang on the wall of my house when I was a little girl and that I thought were just beautiful paintings. I thought those places didn’t exist since I have never had the opportunity to see them. At that moment, all I could do (and actually did) was to be thankful for having perfect eyes that allowed me to see such a thing!! H-O-W-E-V-E-R (as nothing is 100% perfect), my memories would certainly be more memorable if – at that time – I were wearing a Burberry trench coat to make the moment even more special
. I simply LOVE the Fall. My favorite season now that I know it!!!
Fall reminds me of my hero returning home after way too long being far far away. Falling leaves, apple cider, my favorite sweater, and his beautiful face running towards me, the best ever!
My favorite Fall memory is WAY back when I was in kindergarten. I walked to school (yes, in those days you were allowed to walk to school without a parent and actually be safe). It was in the beginning of Fall and my best friend and I were walking through the leaves on our way to school. We decided to collect all the beautiful leaves that we saw and brought them into school to show our teacher. She was so happy to see us excited about Fall, that she had us glue the beautiful leaves onto a piece of oak tag to display a collage. We then had to go into each classroom and show the class our masterpiece. We were so proud of ourselves. Every time I see the beautiful leaves on the ground, I think of that very day. I am in my early 40′s and the memory is still fresh in my mind. I just love Fall!
My favorite fall memory is going up to Vermont for my Aunts wedding. I had never been up north during any other time than the summer before and I was so amazed at the beautiful sights and classic small towns decorated for the season. I have made it a goal to return for a few weeks sometime in the next few years and I am so excited for that trip!
I grew up in the Boston area, a place that hosts amazing autumns. Because of its rich history, one of the best places to visit is Salem during the month of October. Leaves are turning by this point and the air is perfect sweater and scarf weather. It was my freshman year of college and during a long weekend in early October, myself and my closest girlfriends from high school all made the trip back home to see eachother. We decided to spend the day in Salem, where one of my best friends had an apartment. It was a chilly but sunny day and the sights and energy in Salem was unmatched. My friends and I laughed and skipped through the streets, surrounded by the Halloween buzz that ignites Salem every year. Even weeks before the 31st, jack-o-laterns are lit, screams can be heard from haunted houses, music and decorations cover storefronts and people are smiling and laughing everywhere you look. Every streetcorner opens up to a new shop filled with Halloween decor and every person met was engulfed in the spirit of the holiday. My four best friends and I truly embraced this ecclectic environment which we know only exists in our little corner of New England. We picked pumpkins, went shopping in potions stores, posed for pictures with witches, bought friendship bracelets, made caramel apples, watched Hocus Pocus, and vowed to never forget our New England autumn weekend spent with the girls who will be my friends for the rest of my life. When I was in eighth grade my family moved to Salem, Oregon for the year and we were living in an apartment for a few months. As you can imagine, entering a new school in eighth grade was a bit of a rough transition. One day, in mid October or so, I came home and found that mother had decorated the apartment for Halloween and was in the middle of baking pumpkin bread. It smelled amazing and the apartment looked so cute. A slice of fresh pumpkin bread was definitely the perfect antidote to what had been a rough day at new school.
Fall reminds me of my favorite city Boston, MA. Strolling the streets admiring the foliage with a pumpkin spice latte. Gazing at the show windows of the latest fall trends and styles, simply taking in the the wonders of life.
My favorite fall memory is from my junior high school year. One fall day during my high school years, it rained nonstop for a few days. On Monday when I went to school, the entire perimeter around my school was covered with rain water up to our mid- calfs. On days like that we knew most students ( and teachers for that matter) would not be willing to cross the street by getting soaked. Which ultimately meant that classes would be cancelled and we would just hang out and talk non-stop ALL DAY LONG. So, I and some of my best friends just went for it. We crossed through pouring rain water almost up to our knees in our regular tennis shoes. We made it to our classroom soaking wet, took our woven pantyhose and socks off and laid everything along wet hats, scarves on top of heat radiators. Got our wet hair down, poured ourselves some hot tea from the teachers’ lounge room, ate our lunch and snacks, visited other classrooms ( of those guys we had a crush on) and talked all day long as we anticipated. It was just a perfect day with no disappointment and nothing but fun, laughter, genuine friendship and cozy snuggles near the radiator. Thank you for asking this question and ultimately bringing up these wonderful memories. I am all melancholic now.

“Emma, wake up, sweetie. I want to show you something.”
Before my sleepy mind even had a chance to process what my father was saying, he wrapped me like a caterpillar in the quilt I was already nestled under and scooped me into his big arms. Down the stairs and outside we went, a wave of crisp fall air crashing hard against my face. At first, everything was silent and black. Upon closer inspection of the night, however, I gasped; the sky was on fire. At seven, I had never seen a shooting star – let alone a full-blown meteor shower. I watched bullet after bullet of shooting star, eyes and mouth agape. “I know how much you love your sleep, but I knew you’d like this, too,” my dad said as he handed me a mug of hot apple cider and pulled me tighter under his arm.

We used to live in Detroit, MI and we always had the most beautiful falls. We moved from Detroit to St. Louis though, and I never got to see a fall like that again. I came to Kansas City for college, and our falls were not nearly as beautiful as I had seen them when I was a little kid in Detroit. However, I do remember one fall day I went to a pumpkin patch field with one of my friends. I felt like I was in a movie. I was walking around with a friend in the pumpkin patch field and there were huge orange pumpkings and hay everywhere. It was later in the afternoon so the sun had dimmed a little and there was this orange glow about the whole field. We ended up buying some fresh pumpkin donuts sprinkled with powdered sugar and warm apple cider and sitting outside on one of the pumpkins, eating our donuts and drinking our cider, basking in the sun, and admiring the hayfields and the golden glow they gave off from the sun shining on them. This memory is one of my most peacefull memories, especially since I shared it with someone I love so dearly. Whenever I think back to that memory, it always reminds me of the perfect fall day. What’s so special about it is that it’s a unique memory that I will never be able to replicate and replace in my life because honestly who gets to enjoy the pleasure of eating pumpkin donuts with warm apple cider on pumpkins in a pumpkin hay field in the perfect fall weather.

My favorite fall memory is from Halloween when I was 9 years old. I had decided that this year I would be able to create my own costume (the sewing/construction had usually been up to my mom at this point). Seeing as we had nighttime trick-or-treat, I decided I would go as a planetarium. I showed my mom the idea, and described how I wanted to buy a black sweatsuit along with glow in the dark stars and planets that were usually applied to children’s bedroom ceilings. I would activate their glow-in-the-dark nature by setting the costume under a lamp for a few hours so I would glow at night, just like a planetarium would. Needless to say, I had a bit of a nerdy streak as a little girl, but I was so proud to have come up with an idea and made it all by myself. Halloween is still my favorite holiday too!
I don’t have a specific memory per se but I have three words: Pumpkin Spice Latte!! I love fall fashion and when it’s fall I know my favorite holiday is just around the corner…Christmas!
One specific memory popped into my head when I read this question, so it wasn’t hard to choose what I’m going to write about. It was a cool fall day about 18 years ago in Warsaw, Poland. I was 4 years old and holding on to my grandfather’s hand as we walked on a narrow path through a small forest by our house. I remember being bundled up, as fall days are much cooler there than in North America. I would occasionally let go of his hand to run toward a giant pile of crisp brown leaves so I could stomp on them; I loved the crackling sound they made under my feet. We walked in this fashion for a while, me running around and my grandfather strolling a few steps behind me, when I stopped in front of a huge old tree. There was a plaque on it, with words I couldn’t decipher. I asked him what these words meant, and he explained that they were names of people that the tree was named after. I asked who, and he told me it was his name and mine. From that point on, that very tree was visited at least once a week and forever remained “our tree”. Even though I know that that tree didn’t actually bear our names on it, that crisp fall day and our beautiful old tree will always be one of my favorite memories.

The fondest memory of fall was back in ’93 college at the University of NC at Chapel Hill. Everything was new to me, new school, new friends, new job and the start of a new season autumn. Walking around campus through the thick leaves strewn about the ground I stopped in front of the library and I felt so happy to be there experiencing all of it at once. It was my Mary Tyler Moore swinging hat in the air moment! I was overwhelmed and overjoyed at the same time of my independence, my new adventures and a new chapter of my life in the fall. I look forward to the later months because it reminds me of my wonderful time as a young woman in the fall turning over my own new leaf.
My favorite fall memory has to be from just 4 years ago. As a Southern California native, I was shocked to see the leaved change when I was in my freshman year at college in the midwest. I remember walking to class with a to-go cup of coffee in my hand and pausing for a moment to gawk at the trees. I had truly never seen anything quite like it. Yes, there is “Fall” in Southern California, but it’s not quite the same as in the Midwest. The air was cooling down, a little crisp (perfect for an Anthropologie sweater I had treated myself to a few days prior), and the scenery was splashes of red, orange, and yellow with hints of brown and green. It was such a cozy feeling and I’ll always remember it as my first “real” Fall.
It was a beautiful fall day. It was raining and i was running late for school and i had to hurry. As soon as i arrived at school i run to the but that i really liked. He pushed me and we both fell into the rainy road. We both started laughing and everybody stared at use. We were both wet so said to go home and change clothes. Meanwhile i was so happy because i hadn’t even talked to him and that was my chance. When we started walking we suggested to go to nearby cafe to drink something since it was so cold. Of course i accepted, we arrived at the cafe and we started talking. We found tat we listener to the same kind of music and we liked the same movies. After a fin days we became my boyfriend and we are together since.
That is my favorite fall memory.
I live in Northern Kentucky so we experience every season, and although I like being able to have hot summers, cold and snowy winters and rainy springs, I love the crisp cool fall air and deep colors of the newly changed trees. My boyfriend and I picnic quite frequently, whether at a nearby park, the woods across from our house or even out on the patio; we just love a good picnic! Last fall we stopped at Lee’s Famous Recipe (a small hometown fried chicken restaurant) and ordered chicken, potato wedges and warm biscuits with honey to go and headed to our favorite park for lunch. We spread out our red and white checkered tablecloth on the picnic table and divided up the food while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Not an unusual activity for us, but this day was just so serene and peaceful that it will always stick out in my mind. We had deep conversation, laughed and smiled nonstop, cuddled on the ground and sat on the swings like we were kids again. I would love nothing more than to have another stand out picnic like that this fall, with beautiful weather and surroundings, warm delicious food and the love between us.

As soon as fall arrives my favorite memories are of my family and living just outside of a small town in Ontario Canada, we lived beside an apple orchard in a beautiful old restored home that my parents restored and renovated themselves. Fall to me is apple picking, playing in the leaves, pumpkin carving and taking long walks down our country roads and of course listening to my moms favorite fall music Enya, which is now my favorite fall music and helps me feel closer to my family now that I am living in Vancouver BC and miss them greatly.
