My wonderful boyfriend proposed to me over the weekend. It was perfect, intimate and everything a gal like me would want. I’ve found out that after you get engaged, people want to know two things: when’s the date, and what are you going to wear? I’ve already decided that no matter what the date is, that I want to find a fabulous dress. Here are two that are giving me butterflies and making it ALL SO REAL.

If you take a look in my closet, you’d be hard pressed to find any prints. I like clothes that are neutral: simple in color, and dynamite in cut. My girlfriends recently told me about a brand called ADAM during our last girls night in (amongst juicier topics) and once I looked ADAM by Adam Lippes up on Beso, I realized that this line totally rocks my socks. Simple, and well-made, you can count me as their newest fan.

The first turning leaves remind me that I need to burrow deep into the back of my sock drawers to find the black tights I lived in last fall: they let me stretch my summer clothes all the way into mid-November (under shorts, dresses and skirts). Alas, every year it’s the same – the black tights I do happen to find are ridden with so many runs and pills that they looks like a small animal is living on my legs. It’s raining in Los Angeles right now. That’s not a sentence that I say very often: I grew up in here, so I’m used to my sunshine, and don’t own any inclement weather gear. My saving grace is a good beanie; it covers the frizzies and keeps my head warm. Most of my beanies come from the men’s section (I prefer the chunky, slouchy variety) but these pom-pom adorned ones are so adorable. Guess what? I am wearing a beanie as I write this.

Lands’ End Canvas, the contemporary line from Wisconsin-based company Lands’ End, is really hitting their stride right now. I liken Lands’ End Canvas to J.Crew, sans the wait-until-it-goes-on-sale price tag. Bragging to follow: I bought 2 bikinis, a pair of sandals, and a sweater for under a Benjamin – and those numbers make Lands’ End Canvas my one-stop shop to stock-pile stylish basics like this Breton Stripe top and v-neck sweater. I know I’ll be wearing these this fall, and every fall thereafter.

What makes a good coaster, good? I was working from home today (reasons to be explained in a future post) and set down my cup on my glass top sawhorse desk. Naturally, after a few minutes, it started to sweat and so I got up to get a coaster. Which got me thinking about the utilitarian nature of coasters.
I’ve had my share of trial and error when purchasing them. For example, I bought these slate coasters (during my dorm room days); I bought ceramic coasters (when I was into teak décor), but inevitably, water would collect on top of the coaster. They protected my furniture—if the water didn’t dribble off—but I always had to dry them off, which rendered them a bit useless. It wasn’t until I wandered into a little boutique in Brentwood, The Brentwood General Store, that I found a functional yet equally adorable and organic solution: jute naturally soaks up moisture, they’re eco-friendly, and they work with my now nautical, beach meets traditional style. I have found the exact woven ones here. Don’t make the same mistake!

My baby brother (who just turned three) deserves the best and safest stuff there is, and I’m determined that organic is the way to go. Eden Home is one of the sweetest websites I’ve found, and they impressively stick to “organic, all natural and eco-friendly products for your home and life”. And though I love the earthy, organic look, I also totally appreciate that Eden Home has BPA-free plastic dump trucks and other classic toys that I used to play with before the organic lifestyle was so easily accessible.
