Country Time Wedding Formality (I.e., Keep It Low-Key)

The other day I got an email from a female family member in a panic over what to wear to a summer wedding that described itself as “country semi-formal.” First of all, let’s relax on the attire titles, people. I understand what you’re getting at, but I’m sure there’s a less obnoxious way of saying it. I mean, it’s not as bad as the words “Shabby Chic,” which will probably always give me a case of the eye-rolls, but still. So what do you wear to a country wedding? Luckily, I’m somehow equipped to know, or at least pretend to know what I’m talking about. Anytime I see the word “country” I think, floral. You don’t want to show up in a barn looking like an Japanese Anime character. You want to go for soft, sweet, and relaxed. Leave the modern, dark clothes in the city. You’re about eat corn and get some grass stains, if you know how to have fun that is. (And fortunately, most of these guys are on sale.)
