Lauren Merkin started Lauren Merkin Handbags after earning her MBA from Columbia University in 2002.  Lauren previously worked with small businesses and loved the idea of having her own company.  She made several bags on her sewing machine and received positive feedback. 

Bergdorf Goodman was the first major retailer to place an order, and Lauren Merkin clutches began to grab the attention of celebrities.  She then created her signature Lauren Merkin Louise clutch, and shortly after, became known for combining high quality materials with vintage charm.  Lauren describes her customer as woman in her 20s and 30s who likes classic looks, but fun products.  She aims to design accessories that will be trendy and current, but will also endure the seasons.  Each bag is beautifully designed with a distinct look that is both timeless and elegant.  Lauren plays with studded lambskin, python-print and metallic calfskin, croc-embossed leather and suede to add a touch of glam to simple silhouettes.
