Brocade: Fresh Texture For Summer

I’ve always associated fabrics like jacquard and brocade with fall/winter fashion or well…upholstery. However, ever since I picked up a pair of brocade trousers last month, I was introduced to a whole new world of summer fabrics! Brocade is perfect for more than just winter party dresses (or decorative seat cushions) and I’ve been seeing it all over the place this season: Pants, clutches, blazers—you name it! Feminine & Flirty Tassel Jewelry

I never quite realized it until now, but I’m a huge collector of tassel embellished accessories. I think my obsession with playful fringe began when I was a kid playing dress up with my mom’s gold tassel earrings from her 1980′s glory days. Lucky for me, tassels have never really gone out of style – with celebs and fashion’s elite rocking the trend on the regular -so getting my hands on them has been pretty easy. And boy did I take advantage! Over the years I’ve accumulated a hefty collection of swingy tassel embellished accessories (and clothes, too).

Love Me Some Leather

To me, sporting leather in the summer always seemed impractical and a little ridiculous to be perfectly honest. Once again, I have been proven wrong. Leather pieces are sprouting up across the market in an array of different colors, and they couldn’t be any chicer! The look that first turned me on to the idea was a silk shift dress under an ivory leather vest. The outfit was totally effortless and refreshingly unpredictable. Rag & Bone’s current collection features a small selection of leather pieces that are to-die-for. My next investment is a leather mini skirt to pair with breezy blouses and graphic tees all summer long. As an added bonus, when the weather cools down, the look can be instantly warmed-up with tights and booties! So, what’s the verdict? Leather in the summer: Yea or nay?

Memorial Day Style: Any Excuse To Wear Red, White, And Blue!

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and though we’ll be taking the day to remember those who’ve fought for this country, my bet is we’ll also be drinking pool side by 11 AM. Amirite? I personally love Memorial Day, not only because it falls on a Monday every year (3 day weekend ya’ll) but because it’s an excuse to wear head-to-toe red, white, and blue.

Pame’ Designs is a small handmade jewelry company from Colorado (looks like this state is home to more than one creative spirit!) that has mastered the art of laid-back glam. I’ve never been one to wear much jewelry to the beach, but that’s all about to change after seeing their coastal-inspired new arrivals. Do you guys remember back in the day when the coolest thing was to have “TOMMY HILFIGER” and “ABERCROMBIE” emblazoned across your sweater? For the longest time I was thrilled to see this trend fade – that is until I started noticing a crop of really cool designer t-shirts on my favorite street-style blogs. So I took the plunge, first with my Brian Lichtenberg “Homies, South Central” tee and very desperately tried to get my hands on the “Celine Me Alone” t-shirt that all the cool girls (including Kate) are rocking. Designer Lindsey Carter has a CV that reads like a who’s who of wardrobe favorites: She interned at Rebecca Minkoff and White + Warren, started Madewell with Mickey Drexler, and was named “Designer to Watch” by WWD. It’s no wonder: Her line is beautifully thought out, and probably everything my closet needs for summer. Troubadour is made up of simple silhouettes and neutral colors (blues, blacks, whites) that all play to a sleek effect. It’s price-y for sure, but how good are those printed palazzo pants?!

Fossil: My World Traveling Companion

I’m pretty picky when it comes to buying handbags and sometimes it can take me months to finally invest in one. Before I left for my semester abroad in Europe last fall, I splurged on Fossil’s Explorer Tote. I’m so glad I did, because I seriously have no idea how I could have traveled abroad without it! It’s not everyday you find a chic handbag that is roomy enough to fit a DSLR camera, water bottle, snacks, and even an extra pair of shoes! I’d been a fan of Fossil since I purchased one of their crossbody bags a couple years ago, but me and my Explorer Tote‘s stint in Europe really solidified my love for the brand. With timeless style and durability, Fossil is now my go-to for everyday handbags and wallets. Dear Rae, I Love Your Pretty Dainty Jewelry

If there’s one thing I love, it’s beautiful handcrafted jewelry that can be worn everyday. So I was thrilled when I discovered Dear Rae (via Need Supply Co.’s blog), an amazing jewelry line that hails all the way from South Africa. The line – consisting of dainty rings, necklaces, and bangles in non-plated gold, silver, brass, and copper – is quickly becoming one my favorites. All of the precious pieces are handcrafted in the Dear Rae studio located in Cape Town, South Africa by the head designer/ owner Karin and her two associates Morgan and Raymond.

The great thing about Dear Rae pieces is they are functional and meant to be worn everyday. Plus, they form a beautiful patina finish after several wears. Oh, and they ship internationally for a cheap cost, which definitely benefits us stateside ladies. I can’t wait to order my first Dear Rae piece! Which one’s your favorite?

Rivieras: The Alternative Men’s Sandal

I have an acute aversion to men in sandals. I’m not really sure why, but I just don’t find the look attractive. I do, however, understand that the absence of said shoe leaves a major void in a man’s footwear arsenal. Thanks to Rivieras, this problem is solved! Rivieras makes the perfect off-duty shoe for guys that are totally breathable and infinitely cool. The Gap: My New Shop For On-Trend Summer Accessories

When’s the last time you shopped at the Gap? I have to admit, the last time I went to the store I found nothing that caused me to do a double take, except these pretty underpinnings that Kate found. As I was doing my usual online trolling I came across a pair of gorgeous leather sandals that rival these Tory Burch ones (and they cost a fraction of the price). Not only does the now-on-trend store have gorgeous footwear, but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw these amazing striped neon clutches, too. They look a little like these Clare Vivier ones, no? Seriously, when did the Gap get so cool?! All I can say is, I sure am happy I’m an authorized user on my mom’s Gap card. Cha-ching!

Nike Hits Fashion Week? That’s Right!

To be perfectly honest, Nike always left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it’s because I equated the brand with ill-fitting high school sports uniforms or carpool moms who wear workout clothes but never actually break a sweat. Boy have I been proven wrong! I seriously can’t get enough of Nike right now. I’m loving their sporty tees paired with leather mini-skirts and shorts for the ultimate casual-cool look. Their crew necks are also totally chic and even better, super comfortable! Just a few weeks ago, I discovered that Nike created a women’s wedge dunk sneaker for each city’s fashion week (my favorite is Tokyo) and guess what? I want them all! At least this shopping spree is somewhat affordable, right?

Life Gets Dirty, The Laundress Can Help

Drugstore Beauty Products That Really Work!

When I first started using beauty products, I was convinced that if a product was sold at the beauty counter of a fancy department store then it was automatically good. I was so wrong. After years of trial and error (plus, spending some big bucks) I’ve come to realize that some of the best products out there can actually be found in the aisles of my local drugstore. Of course, one must be really careful when testing out a new product as everyone’s skin reacts differently, but so far, these products have been lifesavers when my lips are super chapped or on those days when my skin is less than glowing.

Parisian label Givenchy is one of the most prestigious, mysterious and ever-evolving fashion houses in the world. The brand’s first ambassador was the always-glamorous Audrey Hepburn and later included members of the Kennedy, Grimaldi and Guiness families. Under designers John Galliano and Alexander McQueen the label took on a dark, futuristic edge showcasing gothic-inspired elements, ultimately, losing sight of its original identity. Ricardo Tisci took the reins in 2005, reinterpreting Givenchy’s classic aesthetic and resurfacing the femininity prevalent in the initial designs. Most recently, Givenchy has made a notable comeback, making its way onto the red carpet and significantly influencing a bounty of other designers. The music industry (notably Kanye and Rihanna) seems to be obsessed with the brand’s signature gothic style, lending the label a sort of glam street style reputation. Have you guys heard of the label Stylestalker? What started out as a small online boutique, has quickly become a staple in boutiques and major retailers alike. Hey There, Little Surfer Girl

Like Kate, I too wanted to be part of the surf scene when I first moved to Los Angeles (easier said than done). I took a couple of lessons, but after a few gnarly bruises, I gave up vowing never to surf again until this past summer when my boyfriend finally convinced me to get back on the board. I fell - a ton, but what really got me was the really ugly (and stiff) wet suit I had to wear from a rent shop in Malibu. Come summer, I’m planning on hitting the waves again, this time with my friend who happens to be a nationally ranked surfer and in my own cute suit (hey, I need something to distract from my awful balance)!

The Siren Song of Lucite

Although I tend to associate the material with disco-era fashions, I have to admit that lucite is back in full force. I first became fascinated with the material upon spotting some plexiglass dining chairs with distressed velvet cushions and loved how the modern material was mixed uniquely with more vintage elements. Ever since then, my bedroom has been gradually filling up with a collection of plastic wares (a bedside table, jewelry tray, waste bin) and I’m thinking that my closet will soon follow suit. Tallow: Lustworthy Beach Cover-ups

It’s hard to admit, but I’m kind of notorious for buying clothes that aren’t very wearable. My wardrobe is brimming with amazing vintage kimonos and caftans that I intended to wear as beach cover-ups but sadly these beauties have been on display in my closet – hardly ever worn. My reason? They’re just too delicate and beautiful to wear to the beach! Well now that it’s summer and wearing leather leggings is no longer acceptable, I’m looking to add a couple easy-to-wear pieces that double as beach cover-ups too. So I set my sights on Tallow, an amazing line of surf inspired clothing that I’m seriously coveting. Jewelry by The Woods

Have you guys ever heard of The Woods Fine Jewelry? The brand was founded by two sisters in Aspen, Colorado with the purpose of expressing their personal experiences in nature, the arts and architecture. The line’s aesthetic is based upon the juxtaposition of different mediums, mostly wood and diamonds, along with a mixture of vintage and modern, or rustic and polished elements. Although predominantly carried in luxury boutiques, I was able to track down a few pieces online! Yes, I realize the majority of the merchandise is crazy price-y, but the beaded bracelets are definitely affordable and awesome for stacking! I can’t wait to rock this pink one all summer long.

Remember when I wrote a graduation day style guide in honor of my bffl (yes, that’s best friend for life) graduating this month? Along with helping her find a picture-worthy ensemble, I’ve also been on the hunt for the perfect gift to congratulate her, but of course the girl’s got more clothes and jewelry than the Vogue closet. Instead of buying her something, I’m thinking of surprising her with a weekend girl’s trip to Palm Springs and of course – we’ll need to do a little shopping ahead of time to keep cool in the insanely hot desert weather. I’m pretty sure the most we’ll have to do is throw on a pretty cover-up and post-up with margaritas by the pool.

Don’t Forget Snail Mail: My Favorite Cute Stationery

Despite the convenience of email and texting, there is something wonderful about a sweet handwritten note sent through snail mail. Lately, I’ve been on a stationery kick and have been using cute doodle pads (trust me, to-do lists are so much more fun on a floral note pad than they are on an iPhone) and thank you cards as much as possible.
