Heyyyy, What’s Up?
(I’m Diana)

My name’s Diana, and I’m Beso’s Associate Fashion Editor, where the very core of my job revolves around finding you the very best stuff on the web. Here’s a little background on me: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, graduated from UCLA with an English Lit degree, and always thought I’d go straight into fashion journalism: I was the kid who would read Vogue cover to cover (from the masthead to the Where to Buy section in the back). I took that obsession and went on to intern at Los Angeles Magazine and Women’s Wear Daily. Then the economy tanked, and tanked fast, so I did the unspeakable and went to work for a Fortune 500 company. I come from an artistic family (my mom is a musician, my sister is a photographer, and my aunt is a painter) so I became the black sheep. Wearing business suits every.single.day was pretty soul-crushing, too (there are only so many pastel button-down shirts a girl can wear), so after a year and a half, I left and and am now pretty happy peering into every nook and cranny online to find the absolute most useful/pretty/dapper/cool wares for you/your house/your best friend…

Diana Ryu Beso.com Editor

I’m all about the hunt, and my friends can attest to it: I get e-mails, phone calls, and even Facebook wall posts to help them find the perfect present for their fashion industry colleagues (try this, this, or this), a cocktail dress in the perfect shade of emerald green (only if it’s under $200), or shoes that have sold out everywhere else. Tweet me @heydianaryu if you’re looking for something, anything, and I’ll happily try to help. As long as I don’t have to wear a suit.

    Hey Diana!

Your career is my obsession. I’ll be on the computer for hours scouring every inch of the internet until I find exactly what I’m looking for (usually more affordable versions of what I see in Vogue or my favorite fashion blogs). What advice would you give to a college girl like me who wants to break into the fashion industry? I know interning is a must, but how do I get work without much relevant experience?

    Thank you!

  6. Diana Diana says:

    HI Marissa!
I’m so glad you reached out…we’re a little bit soul sisters, right? You hit it on the head that interning is a must, but to land those really good ones, you have to SHOW that fashion is your obsession (in a smart way). Create a blog where you write “articles” about your favorite runway shows, or put together different outfit collages. Keep it professional, interesting, fun – and you can even make your name the URL so that you can put it on your resume and send it to any future employer!

As much as the fashion industry is about style, it succeeds when there is substance, so make sure to keep reading voraciously (both fashion magazines and really good books) if you want to get into writing. If you want to do more styling type work, try styling your friends and take photos of them to create a portfolio! Here is a great website to start with fashion internships in your area: http://freefashioninternships.com/. Good luck, happy hunting, happy shopping, and let me know how it goes!

Actually I am looking for a ‘forget-me-not’ silk top. Do you have an idea of where I can purchase it online?
    Cheers,
    Michelle

  8. Diana Diana says:

Hi Michelle! I think this is close to what you’re looking for…If it’s not, can you give me a couple more specifics? Is it a tank top? A specific print you’re looking for? Is that the actual name of the top?
