Hi There Lovelies, Nice To Meet You!

I’m Jasmin, the newest addition to the Beso Editorial Team. I’m a born and raised California girl and have lived in Hollyweird…err… I mean Hollywood for a little over 3 years.

Since I can remember I’ve always been interested in fashion. I grew up in the central valley (Fresno, CA), in a not so avant-garde town in terms of fashion, but I always admired the trends I saw while flipping through magazines at the checkout when I was at the market with my mom.

I still remember my first magazine subscription: I was 13 years old. I had begged my mom for Vogue, but she wouldn’t budge—so being the sneak that I am, I signed up anyway and chose the bill me later option. From that point on my obsession grew. I read as many magazines as I could, tearing out pages and using my bedroom walls as inspiration boards. In high school I ransacked my mom’s and sister’s closets (my sis had an amazing collection of vintage purses and velvet jackets she bought at thrift stores during her “San Francisco” days). Everyone thought I was so strange because I would show up to class wearing crochet ponchos and flowing silk shirts from the ’70s while everyone was still wearing Abercrombie & Fitch graphic tees. So by the time graduation came I knew fashion school was the direction I needed to head in.

I decided to head north to San Francisco instead of Los Angeles to attend the Art Institute of California. I had visited FIDM here in LA the summer before and at the time just couldn’t see myself in the city. I wanted to explore San Francisco’s cool neighborhoods and figured it would be my “mini New York.” I made the jump to LA after only 4 months of San Fran life. I was torn because I loved the quirkiness of the city, but I also knew the fashion industry there was too underground and laid back for me. I needed adventure and a faster paced environment. Plus, I had already lined up an internship at California Apparel News and couldn’t wait to get involved.

Since then I’ve graduated from the Art Institute of California—Hollywood, with a BA in fashion marketing. I’ve had some pretty incredible opportunities. like assisting a well-known celebrity stylist, working with charity organizations, and meeting some interesting people along the way. I’ve truly loved every second of this fascinating roller coaster. And now, here I am—working for Beso with a pretty rad team, getting the opportunity to share my finds! So until next time…
