One of the things that made Lucky Magazine such a fun place to work, was that every trip to the bathroom, or the fabled Conde Nast cafeteria, or, well, the vending machines, required the circumnavigation of the racks, which lined every hallway (and spilled out of every fashion closet). The racks were just that: Rolling racks lined with pieces from showrooms, grouped according to fashion story, or market editor, or color, or type. It was flat-out impossible not to linger, and lay hands on every piece. Jen Smith, a fashion editor at Lucky back in the day, lived in the racks. In fact, I don’t really remember ever seeing her in her actual office (I don’t even think I know where it was), because if she wasn’t off shooting in some exotic location, she was in the halls, plucking hundreds of pieces from the racks to style into looks for the magazine. Tough job. She later went onto be the fashion director at the sadly shuttered Cookie magazine before settling in her home town of Tucson, Arizona with her son, Fisher. These days, I stalk her Facebook feed because Jen finds the prettiest stuff out there. Hands down. Instead of mining her mind for blog ideas, I thought I’d strong-arm her into posting them here directly. So without further ado…meet Jen!
