I actually first met Melissa at my house, at a brunch that Beso hosted for former Beso Babies & Kids editor, Joanna Goddard, of Cup of Jo: Rob, my husband, actually let her in on his way out, and then text me that he was 90 percent certain that the girl he had just passed was Cory’s wife. Years ago, Cory had bartended at the bar where Rob DJ’d (where Rob and I met), and they had spent the night of New York City’s famous black-out together. It’s a small world indeed, since Melissa Magsaysay is in fact, married to Cory, and Rob and Cory had been emailing about meeting up, not knowing that Melissa and I worked in the same industry.
All that aside, I had already made my way over to Melissa so that I could check out her stack of wrapped Fallon bracelets (I always go straight for the jewelry)—and honeslty, the rest of her outfit, too. Melissa just knows how to pull it all together in a way that’s actually kind of intimidating—standing next to her, I definitely always look like the girl who doesn’t know what she’s doing. Anyway, at the time of our first meeting, Melissa was a style writer/editor for The LA Times—so I was well-familiar with her byline—but I wasn’t aware that she has a book coming out. And it’s rad: City of Style, which hits book stores in May, is a treaty on every facet of L.A. style, from the Hollywood Glamazons to the surfers of the west side.
Before her stretch at the LA Times, Melissa worked for WWD and W—as a stylist and an editor—which means she’s intimately familiar with the world of fashion and beauty. And since she’s going to have a child soon, too, she’s getting to know all about kids stuff, too. Let’s just say that I’m pretty thrilled she’s going to be serving it all up for us here on the blog—and on Beso.com, too.
