You know when there are just those things that you want, for years and years. And you can’t necessarily trace the source of this want, but you want said item regardless? I have always wanted a Servane Gaxotte necklace—but at nearly $400, the pricetag has always stopped me in my tracks. But I understand why they’re price-y, too: They all feature hand-dressed dolls (and dogs, and cats), and they’re totally unlike anything else out there. I can track this interest back at least a decade. Strange, right? SO, that’s how I found myself on the Singapore-based jewelry site, Mardeu…just checking out their selection of Servane Gaxotte necklaces (though I’m heading to Paris next month, and nothing quite compares with their amazing store there). And while browsing around this quirky little site, I fell in love with about eight other jewelry designers that I’ve never heard of before. It seems that many of them are from Japan: How totally rad and strange is this bear-holding-pearl necklace by Cogito? And I’m totally smitten with Aikou, both for their leather-work that looks like gold sequins and the hammered, old-fashioned pendants that look super-precious. And how could I forget the bedazzled, rhinestone-y bow earrings and pendants from Cornu. Seriously, go check this stuff out! They have well known designers like Shourouk and Iosselliani, but I’m way more into these up-and-coming lines.
