Orange lips are a modernized (and much more casual) version of classic red, and I’ve been wearing the color non-stop for the past year. I’ve relied on YSL Rouge Volupte in orange, with mixed results: After a couple hours, I see some cracking, and a weird white film on the inside part of my lips. When Sephora set up a pop-up shop to showcase their collaboration with Pantone’s Tangerine Tango (the color of the year), I made a bee-line for the orange lipstick.
It’s a super-hydrating Creme Lipstick ($18) that doesn’t stay on very long, but to it’s credit, ends up as a stain (my lips were the perfect pinky-orange by 9pm) with nary a crack in sight. Another standout is the Blush Duo ($26) which includes a matte peach-y powder — there’s nothing worse than looking like you have a disco ball on your face (I went through a big (and embarrassing) glitter bronzer period…so regretful). And for design heads: The whole line comes cased in a sleek minimal design as a homage to the color chips Pantone is known for.
If you’re super gung-ho about orange, dedicate yourself with tangerine eyeshadows ($28), eyeliner sets ($22), and some save-them-for-halloween falsies ($28) or wait for next year: Sephora has already promised future releases with the color forecasting brand.
