Guest Post: 3 Ways To Wear High-Waisted Shorts June 1st, 2011 By

Amanda from Color Me Blue shares with us her styling tips in today’s guest post.

We all love a good high-waisted skirt, so why not try a sweet little pair of high-waisted shorts?  They’re chic, flirty, and best of all, extremely versatile.  These bad boys can go from polished to sexy to casual cool in just minutes.  Check out three very different ways to where this new summer staple!

Way #1: Look polished in your high-waisted shorts by wearing them with a tailored blouse. Add some wedges, a belt, and you’ll look très chic. Plus, as long as those shorts aren’t half way up your tush, you could even wear them to work!

Way #2: Have fun with color and pair your bright shorts with a printed top. Throw on some aviators, a denim jacket, (and maybe a touch of wind in your hair), and you’re sure to turn heads.

Way #3: Summer is all about chilling out and relaxing. High-waisted shorts are the perfect way to look cool and trendy but still casual and effortless. Just add an embellished tank (make it yourself!), a summer hat, some chunky sandals, and you’re good to go.

Get This Look: Cheryl Cole in Grey for Spring March 16th, 2010 By

Cheryl Cole/Photo from Zimbio

Cheryl Cole was spotted in this season’s color as she walked through Heathrow on March 2, 2010. She managed to look rocker-chic without looking like she’s on her way to a Metallica concert. I’m absolutely obsessed with the embellished shoulders on her Alice + Olivia Structured Parade Tee; little details like that really make the outfit pop. Get a similar tee in the same great color with this grey Embellished Tee by Bisou Bisou for only $24.99. Cole takes the look to the next level with some killer leather pants like this pair from True Religion. Not brave enough for those? No worries. These black J Brand jeans give the same effect. If you want something with a little more edge, try these skinny ripped jeans by Blank. You can’t go wrong with either.

Aviators

Last, but not least, throw on some aviators to block out the flashes from the paps. Trust me… you’ll need them.

seaofshoes’ Jane Aldridge gives us her beso January 26th, 2010 By

Jelly Garcia dress and sequin tube top from Mango

Jelly Garcia Dress and Sequin Tube Top from Mango

I’ve been an avid reader of Vanity Fair for years. And, while I haven’t quite adjusted to the absence of the beloved Dominick Dunne, the magazine rarely disappoints. The February 2010 issue, featuring photos of Tiger Woods by Annie Leibovitz, was no exception. In it, Jane Aldridge was featured as a Bright Young Thing for the work she’s done with her incredibly influential blog, seaofshoes.com.

We reached out to her to get a read on her current crushes. Herewith is Jane Aldridge’s “be so”.

What are your favorite jeans?
I like Madewell’s no stretch matchstick jeans. They have a nice high rise and a beautiful wash.

What’s your “go-to” pair of shoes for around town?
You can’t beat Dries van Noten shoes for beauty and comfort. I switch between a pair of pair of buckled leather slingbacks and a pair of yellow patent sneaker wedges at the moment.

Whose bag(s) are you carrying right now?
Currently I’m carrying a gigantic Burberry bucket bag that is pieced together with little gold rings. It was a great deal at an outlet store. It weighs about ten pounds on it’s own.

And your scent of choice?
I love Serge Lutens fragrances; they are very heavy and old-fashioned. I wear Serge Noire.

What stores are you drawn into?
Here in Dallas, I go to many thrift stores. I go to Barneys to buy shoes; American Apparel for underwear and shirts.

What color is your new black?
I like pale shades of grey green. It’s hard to come by in clothing.

What’s your favorite LBD (little black dress)?
An 80s puffy sleeved princess-waist dress that I got in Austin.

iPhone or Blackberry?
iPhone.

Ray-Ban Aviators or Wayfarers?
Aviators.

What’s was your New Year’s resolution?
To take good care of myself and people I love, and make more money.

And, of course, what’s your be so?
“be so friendly.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thanks for the interview; email or text us when you’re in town!

Editor’s Picks: What I Can’t Live Without Right Now January 25th, 2010 By

Here are my top picks for products I can’t live without these days:

Mara's Top Picks, 1. MARC by Marc Jacobs, 2. Hanky Panky, 3. Lola, 4. Revlon Sheer Pink, 5. Kiehl's Conditioner, 6. Ray-Ban Aviators, 7. Votivo Candles, 8. M.A.C. Lipglass

Mara's Top Picks: 1. MARC by Marc Jacobs, 2. Hanky Panky, 3. Lola, 4. Revlon Sheer Pink, 5. Kiehl's Conditioner, 6. Ray-Ban Aviators, 7. Votivo Candles, 8. M.A.C. Lipglass

When thinking about this week’s post, I turned to my own current must-haves for inspiration.  Here’s what I’m loving right now:

1. MARC by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Benny Satchel
$398
“The grape color is fresh and flirty for spring, and I can’t get enough of the dove motif on his latest collection!  Plus, it has plenty of pockets that keep me organized when I’m on the go.”

2. Hanky Panky Low Rise Thong
$18
“The only underwear I buy these days — I must own a pair in every color.  They’re so soft and comfortable, and they never show through my clothing.”

3. Marc Jacobs Lola Eau de Parfum, 3.4 oz.
$85
“One of the best-selling perfumes in the country right now, Lola has hints of fuscia peony, geranium, and ruby red grapefruit.”

4. Revlon Sheer Pink Enamel
$4.79
“When I don’t have time for a manicure, Revlon’s Sheer Pink polish saves the day.  The smooth formula glides on evenly, and it’s sheer enough so that mistakes don’t show.  Just one coat makes my nails look pretty and even.”

5. Kiehl’s Extra Strength Conditioning Rinse
$21-$33
“I use this conditioning rinse in lieu of my daily conditioner once a week to soften and add shine to my long (somewhat damaged and dry) hair.  Added bonus: the delicious coconut smell!”

6. Ray-Ban Aviators
from $72
“Even on my worst days, the aviator style makes me feel tough and sexy.  I love how Ray-Ban is now offering different lens and frame shades.  My favorite, the classic large style with gold frame and black lenses.”

7. Votivo Candle — Red Current
$25
“Perhaps my favorite candle, it’s clean-burning with a delicious scent that appropriate year-round and not too girly.  Makes an excellent hostess gift!”

8. M.A.C. Cosmetics Clear Lipglass
$14
“The shiniest gloss I’ve ever tried.  This unique formula really does leave a glass-like finish that lasts for hours.  I love it alone or over my favorite lipstick.”
