The Most Expensive Kids Clothing September 23rd, 2010 By

The other day I read an article on The Huffington Post about Outrageously Expensive Kids Clothing.  We’re talking leather toddler jackets for over $500, $250 jeans, and $1,000 dresses.  One can hardly argue that these are “investment pieces” since kids seem to outgrow clothing overnight.  However, with names like Prada, Dior and Burberry, are you really surprised?

Prada Girls' Flats, $210

Prada Girls' Flats, $210

Check out these Prada kids shoes!  While certainly adorable, I could hardly justify buying them since I rarely spend over $100 on a pair of shoes for myself.  And, in all honesty, if I were to buy Prada shoes they would be for me and not my growing child!

Burberry Girl's Jacket, $170

Burberry Girl's Jacket, $170

The thing is, even if I could afford to drop $200 on a pair of shoes for my (non-existent) child, I really don’t even think that I would.  Perhaps for an extremely special occasion like a Christening or an important wedding — maybe.  I’m curious to know if my sentiments would change if I actually had a darling little girl of my own to dress up, particularly when it comes to Burberry kids’ clothes (Burberry is my weakness).  What are your thoughts dressing little kids in designer clothes?

Trendspotting: Socks with Heels June 11th, 2010 By

I recently noticed that designers and other fashion insiders have started pairing socks with heels.  While it is definitely not a look for the cowardly, done right, this trend can be fun and sophisticated.  I think Burberry got it right, pairing socks with heels in similar shades:

Burberry rocks the monochromatic look

Burberry

These ladies also seem to have the look down. They don’t pull their socks up too high, which is very flattering (editor’s note: I have seen the look with knee-high socks, but be wary as this trend is meant to be sweet and not too sexy):

Sheer black socks and stilettos

This look also works with shorter, flowing hemlines

To try this look yourself, go for a shoe with a chunky wedge or thick platform.  Look for leather, suede and wood materials, and don’t try this with espadrilles!  Here are some hot shoes that would look great with the right women’s trouser sock:

Jessica Simpson's 'Garta' with black trouser socks

Sergio Rossi with tan or white trouser socks

Just remember this is already a bold trend to try, so don’t make the mistake of picking a shoe that is too loud or a sock that is too thick – regular socks won’t work! Your look could end up like this:

Don't pair a loud shoe with thick socks!

Accessory Style File: Pretty Pouches February 27th, 2010 By

I have finally mastered keeping the inside of my bags clean and organized!  The secret is to invest in a few pouches for makeup and loose change to avoid spills, leaks and stains.  Some of us can never figure out how the bottom of our bag gets so dirty.  Loose or melted lipstick, lotion and dirty change are usually the culprit. It’s almost impossible to clean the lining of a handbag so if you have a separate bags, you reduce the chance of an embarrassing mess.  It also makes it much easier to switch bags in a hurry!  Here are my stylish finds on beso that are perfect for your daily essentials:

seaofshoes’ Jane Aldridge gives us her beso January 26th, 2010 By

Jelly Garcia dress and sequin tube top from Mango

Jelly Garcia Dress and Sequin Tube Top from Mango

I’ve been an avid reader of Vanity Fair for years. And, while I haven’t quite adjusted to the absence of the beloved Dominick Dunne, the magazine rarely disappoints. The February 2010 issue, featuring photos of Tiger Woods by Annie Leibovitz, was no exception. In it, Jane Aldridge was featured as a Bright Young Thing for the work she’s done with her incredibly influential blog, seaofshoes.com.

We reached out to her to get a read on her current crushes. Herewith is Jane Aldridge’s “be so”.

What are your favorite jeans?
I like Madewell’s no stretch matchstick jeans. They have a nice high rise and a beautiful wash.

What’s your “go-to” pair of shoes for around town?
You can’t beat Dries van Noten shoes for beauty and comfort. I switch between a pair of pair of buckled leather slingbacks and a pair of yellow patent sneaker wedges at the moment.

Whose bag(s) are you carrying right now?
Currently I’m carrying a gigantic Burberry bucket bag that is pieced together with little gold rings. It was a great deal at an outlet store. It weighs about ten pounds on it’s own.

And your scent of choice?
I love Serge Lutens fragrances; they are very heavy and old-fashioned. I wear Serge Noire.

What stores are you drawn into?
Here in Dallas, I go to many thrift stores. I go to Barneys to buy shoes; American Apparel for underwear and shirts.

What color is your new black?
I like pale shades of grey green. It’s hard to come by in clothing.

What’s your favorite LBD (little black dress)?
An 80s puffy sleeved princess-waist dress that I got in Austin.

iPhone or Blackberry?
iPhone.

Ray-Ban Aviators or Wayfarers?
Aviators.

What’s was your New Year’s resolution?
To take good care of myself and people I love, and make more money.

And, of course, what’s your be so?
“be so friendly.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thanks for the interview; email or text us when you’re in town!

How to Wear: Puffer Jackets December 2nd, 2009 By

Juicy Couture Puffer Jacket

Juicy Couture Puffer Jacket

Puffer jackets are perfect for winter’s cold weather, but you don’t have to look like the Michelin Man just to keep warm.

Picking the right puffer jacket, not too fluffy, and pairing it with the right outfit are key to looking snow-bunny chic.

A defined waist, whether from a belt or the shape of the coat itself, will help you to look svelte.  Petite women should be wary of long puffer coats as they can overpower a smaller frame.  Your other garments should be streamlined and slimming under your coat. Wear your puffer over leggings, skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. Avoid A-line skirts and anything that adds volume. Wear a dark puffer coat for a more slimming effect.

Fur trim, like the faux-fur on the Juicy Couture jacket above, will keep your neck warm and coats lined with shearling or fur are extra toasty.

Juicy Couture and Burberry offer some gorgeous belted puffers. For a more wallet-friendly option, check out Victoria’s Secret and Target.

How to Wear: Trench Coats November 17th, 2009 By

KORS Michael Kors Leopard Trench

KORS Michael Kors Leopard Trench

One of my favorite ways to wear a trench coat is over a dress or skirt. Many trench coats already kick out at the hem and mimic a full skirt shape, so they really enhance the femininity of a look. You know that tying the belt will help keep the look neat and trim, but try tying it in a bow through the back loops so the front is clean and your waist is still nipped in.

A bright colored or leopard trench is on trend this season. Pair it with all black accessories (hat, leather gloves and scarf) for maximum impact. If bright accessories are more your style, rock them with a plain black trench coat. Burberry classic trenches are the perfect investment piece.  Your look shouldn’t be too monochromatic (no red scarves, hats and trenches) and there shouldn’t be any competition between colors or patterns (if you wear a leopard print, keep everything else solid).

Trench coats can be worn year-round, as they work over light summer blouses in early fall, as well as with thick sweaters when the temperature drops.  If you are lucky enough to live in an area where you rarely see snow, a trench coat may be all you need to get you through the seasons.

How to Wear: Rainboots November 3rd, 2009 By

Rainboots from Target

Rainboots from Target

On cold, rainy days, nothing is worse than getting to work with wet feet and soggy, unattractive pant hems after an unpleasant commute.  A pair of cute rainboots would have saved you some discomfort.  Wear rainboots with a cute dress or skirt and tights and bring your flats or a pair of cut-out booties along with you to work.

Rainboots are made to handle the elements, unlike your ballet flats so you won’t have to fear puddles.  Your flats won’t have to go into storage yet either, which is great for those of use who are reluctant to see the lovely warm summer weather go away and with it, some of our favorite shoes.

Burberry Rainboots
Burberry Rainboots

Rainboots come at all price points and styles.  We love fun, bright prints for grey days.  The rainboots at Target are all under $20, so you can afford to buy a few in different patterns.  As a bonus, you can wear a black trench coat and never worry about if the pattern clashes with your outfit.

Have more cash to spend?  Check out these Burberry rainboots.  Their classic plaid pattern will keep you dry in serious style.

Monthly Splurges: October October 13th, 2009 By

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

I love a good splurge every now and then.  The key is not to wake up the next day feeling guilty for my purchase.  That’s why I always make sure that any indulgence is not only worth the money spent, but also a luxury I will be able to enjoy for years to come.

This month, I’m all about neckwear.  From fabulous flirty necklaces to yummy cashmere scarves, my d©collet© is just dying to be draped in extravagance.  These pieces are all valuable investments, worth their price, and won’t go out of style.

The Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red is probably one of the most versatile items you’ll ever own.  It can add style to jeans and a simple shirt, and looks equally appropriate worn with a jacket over a cocktail dress to keep warm.  While $195 might be steep for a scarf, wear it with a Target t-shirt and your whole outfit will still look like it came from Burberry.

Banana Republic Floral Necklace

Banana Republic Floral Necklace, $125

I simply cannot get enough of this floral necklace from Banana Republic.  The mixed metals and antique detail make this piece look like it’s worth far more than the $125 price tag.  And the grey satin bow — sweet and sexy.  Since statement necklaces are hot right now, this is something that can be worn casually during the day and dressed up for night.  But even after this trend has been worn out, I can still see myself wearing this with an LBD to a holiday party.

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

But what goes with my new scarf and necklace?  This Rag & Bone Maryna leather jacket, that’s what.  The asymmetrical cut ensures that this look is thoroughly modern, and the softness of the leather adds a nice feminine contrast. Top everything off with a spritz of Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance, Lola, and you’ll see why this is money well spent.

Classics: Trench Coats September 23rd, 2009 By

Burberry's Classic Trench Coat

Burberry's Classic Trench Coat available at beso.com

The Wall Street Journal reports that the sexy ’60s style on Mad Men is influencing designers’ fall lines.  Donatella Versace, Tory Burch and Michael Kors are fans of the show.  The fitted sheath dresses and pencil skirts that exemplify this style pair perfectly with a trench coat.  Get one in a basic black or khaki and one in a fun color, like blue, red or bright pink to make the most of this look.  Burberry‘s trench is iconic and is a great style investment.  Michael Kors offers bright yellow, pink and leopard printed trenches; they are the perfect way to cheer up a dreary fall day.
