Fake a Flush with Gel Blush September 14th, 2010 By

I love makeup and everything that has to do with it.  There’s something so fun about being girly and trying new, colorful things.  Gel blush and stains are a great way to get and keep your color all day long!  Haven’t triend one yet?  Here are my two favorites:

Benetint Cheek and Lip Stain from Benefit

Benetint Cheek and Lip Stain from Benefit

The original? It’s still the best. Benetint is an absolute MUST-HAVE when it comes to make-up, especially summer beauty products. A little bit goes a long way, so this bottle will last a couple of months without coming close to running out.  Plus, it stays on ALL day and looks great!

Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy

Some people prefer the texture of a gel over liquid, so for them, Tarte Cheek Stain is a great way to go. It’s a stick of gorgeous color that’s perfect for on-the-go applications!

A Tried-and-True Flare: AG Legend June 8th, 2010 By

AG Adriano Goldschmied Legend Flare

Thinking about investing in AG by Adriano Goldschmied? A favorite of celebs and regular women (and men!) everywhere, this brand is known for their soft denim, great fits and wonderful cuts.

My favorite style in the line is the AG Legend (also called the New Legend on some sites). It’s a great flare that flatters almost every figure.

If you’re looking to get your hands on a pair, here are a couple of recommendations:

1. Scope out the sites and be willing to invest.  Prices are higher because they don’t go on sale as often, but they’re worth the cost!  And many little birds have told me about the wonders of the AG Stilts for shorter girls — you’ll definitely save on tailoring.

2. Be patient when it comes to finding the right pair of jeans.  The right flare is out there for you, and the AG Legend may not be it… but you’ll find it, I promise!  Other favorites include Citizens of Humanity flare jeans, as well as Rock & Republic.

Tips and Tricks to Wearing Denim Leggings May 17th, 2010 By

Not only is the denim legging trend super popular this season, but they will also carry you into summer!  Light and easy to wear, these beautiful bottoms will keep you covered without overheating.  Here are my 3 tips for wearing denim leggings:

1. Pair with a tunic or longer tank.
Many pairs of denim leggings, like the Medium Mineral Leggings from Joe’s Jeans, don’t have back pockets. For girls like me, this runs the risk of making your backside look bigger than it is.  If that’s a look you’d like to avoid, wear your jeggings with tunics or tops that hit you mid-tush.  This will keep your look clean and cover up anything you may not want to be seen.

2. Go with a good length.
Because denim leggings are meant to hit at your ankles, just like your full-length leggings do, make sure you don’t get a pair that’s too long. You can hem them (you should make friends with a good tailor), but your best bet is to look for a pair that already hits you directly at your ankle.  For most girls of average height, this could prove tricky — check out Citizens of Humanity.

3. Get a little wild!

The best part about jeggings is that they’re essentially a blank canvas.  There are a million different ways to wear them, but we suggest a wild pair of shoes such as bright red pumps or something in animal print.

Have any tips you’d add to the list? Share them in the comments… and go get yourself a new pair of jeans!

Have You Tried Double Denim? May 7th, 2010 By

Christina Hendricks Rocks Her Double Denim Look

Celebrities LOVE the double denim style and have been jumping on the bandwagon left and right.  It’s a hard trend to pull off without getting the dreaded “Canadian Tuxedo” look, but it’s definitely worth a try if you’re looking to push the envelope.

While the Guardian UK wrote up a list of Double Denim Rules, I still think that it’s tricky to make this style work for those of us who aren’t paid to look pretty or put styles together.

One tip I can give you if you’re thinking about attempting this style: choose two totally different washes like Christina Hendricks did.  Her fiery hair and cognac boots give it just the right pop of color.  I recommend a dark pant like these Blank Denim Skinnie Classique Jeans on sale at Piperlime and a lighter denim shirt like this Lucky Brand’s Shrunken Slub Chambray Shirt.

How do you feel about the Denim-on-Denim trend?  Have you worn this style yet? Let us know!

Current/Elliott Denim Shorts for Summer May 3rd, 2010 By

I’ve been writing a series of posts about my favorite shorts for summer 2010 over on Denim Debutante, but I wanted to share an exclusive here on beso.   If you’re looking for the perfect pair of summer shorts, one of my favorites has to be the Current/Elliott whiskered roll shorts

While these are definitely a casual pair, they have a lot of versatility (note: Current/Elliott runs large, so I recommend sizing down one whole size.  Don’t worry, you’ll still have that sexy, slouchy look that they do so well).  Three great points:

1. They are longer than standard shorts – and the roll cuff gives you versatility to make them as short or long as you’d like.
2. The whiskering on them looks natural, giving you that broken in look that’s so hot right now.
3. They’re comfortable!  Current/Elliott has stylish comfort down, and these shorts are no exception.

Check out other amazing selections I’ve picked out at beso, but remember that when it comes to denim shorts, you can’t go wrong with a fabulous fit in a classic style.

Celebrities in Denim: Lindsay Lohan April 4th, 2010 By

The girl might catch some flack from her personal life, but you’ve got to give credit where it’s due: she has a great denim wardrobe.

I’ve picked my two favorite shots of Lindsay in jeans, and two pairs of jeans you can get right here at beso that recreate the look.

1. Lindsay in Balmain:

LindsayLohanRippedDenim

Lindsay Lohan in the oh-so popular ripped denim from Balmain

I love the look of these jeans, especially because of the ripped and bleached denim trend. It’s fun, it’s fresh and it’s sticking around throughout this spring/summer season. What I don’t like? The two thousand dollar price tag.  Here’s a great option instead:

Genetic Denim 'The Davis Ripped Slouchy' in White

Genetic Denim 'The Davis Ripped Slouchy' in White

These jeans are not only less expensive, they’re also on sale! Check them out for only $125.

2. Lindsay in Jet by John Eshaya Shorts:

Lindsay Lohan in Jet by John Eshaya Denim Cut-Off Shorts

Are you ready for summer? I have a couple of cut-off denim shorts, and these Jet by John Eshaya shorts are definitely on-trend! Want to try it for yourself, without the premium denim price tag? Here’s my recommendation:

7 For All Mankind "Flynt" Cut-Off in Tahiti

7 For All Mankind "Flynt" Cut-Off in Tahiti

Okay, so they’re still premium denim, but… they’re on sale! Get these 7 For All Mankind babies at 6pm.com at 47% off – now marked down to $67.85.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for summer already! Make sure your wardrobe is too, and keep up with the latest trends (without paying the ridiculous prices). For more denim reviews and details, head over to DenimDebutante.com and stay tuned to the beso blog!

Denim Brand Review: 7 For All Mankind March 21st, 2010 By

I’ve written about 7 For All Mankind on DenimDebutante.com a couple of times, but since some time has passed, I wanted to share my latest experiences exclusively with the beso blog readers!

To start with a little brand background, 7 For All Mankindwas started by denim powerhouse Jerome Dahan (the same designer of Citizens of Humanity denim line) in 2000. Dahan and his partner left the company in 2004 (if my memory and Google research serves me right), and the brand was bought out by Vanity Fair in 2007. Around the time when Dahan left, the brand started to slip. Quality, cut and fit seemed to fall to the wayside in favor of loud designs, crystals and other forms of flash.

I wasn’t 100% sure that I would ever buy another pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans, but I gave the line one more chance and I’m so happy to say that they have totally turned the fit and design around. The brand has made a complete 180 and has come back to wear they started – traditional styles, perfect fits and innovative washes.

Here are my top 3 favorite styles from the brand:

7 For All Mankind Gummy Gwenevere in Indigo

#3 The DojoThe Dojo is the traditional flare that really made the line famous, and it’s pretty obvious how that happened. The fitted thigh, flared leg and perfectly sized back pockets made this great. Plus, for those of us who are shorter, the Petite Dojo is about a 30″ inseam, has a slightly higher knee break to elongate your legs and make you look taller.

#2 The Skinny: Clean, gorgeous and easy to wear, 7 For All Mankind’s newest skinny cut is awesome! This pair is perfect to wear with boots and a tunic… soft and simple. A definite winner.

#1 The Gwenevere: My all-time favorite pair from 7 For All Mankind is the Gummy Gwenevere Denim Legging in Indigo. They’re soft, a great length and a snug fit. The Gummy style does run a little bit small (about a half size, so if you’re in between sizes like me, go with your larger size), but it’s a pair you’ll keep going to again and again.

Curious about all the pairs that 7 For All Mankind has to offer? Don’t be! beso has all of them all in one place – everything from brand new to sale pairs – just go to their 7 For All Mankind Section and search through the different pairs to find what’s right for you!

Pop Quiz: Who was the original fit model for 7 For All Mankind? (Hint: She now has her own very popular denim line!)

Top Denim under $100 March 6th, 2010 By

Blank Bushwicked Denim, $67

I love expensive denim just as much as the next person (well… probably a little bit more, but let’s keep that between us).  There’s nothing better than a quality pair of jeans that won’t break your bank and don’t cost as much as your rent. What are my favorite brands under $100? Oh, I’m so glad you asked!

1. Anoname: beso has a stellar collection of Anoname, and they’re probably my favorite under $100 brand. Okay, so some of the pairs are over that (it looks like the prices are ranging from $55 to $110), but they’re amazing. Between the soft denim, hand detailing and great washes, nobody will ever know that you paid so little for these gorgeous babies!

2. Blank Denim: A brand that’s on-trend AND every pair under $90? Not many brands can pull it off, but the fabulous Blank Denim does! This NYC-based brand puts out a ton of new styles every season and they’re all a great price. I own a pair and this is one of the few brands that I’ve paid full price for because… well, full price is only about $60!

3. Cheap Monday: Sweden might be known for blonde, blue-eyed bombshells, but this Swedish brand might just change that thought! These jeans offer a great fit that has been seen on everyone from celebrities to scenesters, girls next door and style mavens… all for under a Benjamin.

Is there a brand that you love under $100? Share it in the comments and we’ll duke it out! Want more denim advice to tide you over until my next post here at beso blog? Head over to DenimDebutante.com!

Denim’s Most Recognizable Backside: True Religion Jeans February 22nd, 2010 By

- from Denim Debutante

You’ve seen them on everyone from celebrities to the girl (or guy!) next door. These babies are carried at virtually every high-end denim boutique (as well as their own stand-alone stores) and all major department stores.

But, what’s so special about True Religion Jeans?

A little brand background from the True Religion site:

True Religion Becky Bootcut Stretch in Dark Windfall

True Religion "Becky" Bootcut Stretch in Dark Windfall

Jeffrey Lubell founded True Religion in 2002 with the intention of redefining premium denim. His vision was to make quality, American-made, authentic, timeless, great fitting, 1970′s inspired jeans wear, with a trendsetting appeal for today’s consumer.

Today, True Religion Brand Jeans is known not only for its denim, but also for its knit and woven sportswear, such as t-shirts, western shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants that all have that vintage feel.

True Religion’s commitment to perfect fit, timeless style and that hippie bohemian chic flair have solidified True Religion’s brand position as a leader in premium denim and casual sportswear globally.

In the years since their inception, True Religion has exploded into a denim powerhouse and is, with the possible exception of 7 For All Mankind (which we’ll talk more about in the future!), the more recognizable and most counterfeited jeans. When purchasing a pair, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

1. If you’re unsure that they’re authentic, WALK AWAY. While you won’t see any counterfeit True Religions here on beso.com, there is no guarantee that the ones you see for $50 on eBay are real.

2. Buying from someone you trust is very important, but even then, I recommend reading the tags and brushing up on the markers to look for (Authentic Forum is a great place to check this out, as well as this guide on eBay).

3. If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Trust your instincts.

4. Read reviews and ask questions. There are people like me who live and breathe denim, and we’re more than willing to help you find the perfect pair!

There are definitely some great deals to be found for True Religion jeans right here on beso.com. The pair I recommend the most? The True Religion Multi Stud “Bobby” Flare in Promiseland Wash… and they’re 30% off!

Happy Shopping!
