Fall Essential:
Chic Pencil Skirt
August 25th, 2011 By

We love the new take on pencil skirts for fall.  Rich colors and fabrics have inspired us to create more glamorous looks.  Tops with billowy sleeves, ruffles or a bow blouse will instantly dress up your pencil skirt for day.  Incorporate an animal print or sequin accessories for evening, and replace your boring cardigan and flats with a cropped leather jacket and platform pumps.

Monthly Splurges: October October 13th, 2009 By

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

I love a good splurge every now and then.  The key is not to wake up the next day feeling guilty for my purchase.  That’s why I always make sure that any indulgence is not only worth the money spent, but also a luxury I will be able to enjoy for years to come.

This month, I’m all about neckwear.  From fabulous flirty necklaces to yummy cashmere scarves, my d©collet© is just dying to be draped in extravagance.  These pieces are all valuable investments, worth their price, and won’t go out of style.

The Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red is probably one of the most versatile items you’ll ever own.  It can add style to jeans and a simple shirt, and looks equally appropriate worn with a jacket over a cocktail dress to keep warm.  While $195 might be steep for a scarf, wear it with a Target t-shirt and your whole outfit will still look like it came from Burberry.

Banana Republic Floral Necklace

Banana Republic Floral Necklace, $125

I simply cannot get enough of this floral necklace from Banana Republic.  The mixed metals and antique detail make this piece look like it’s worth far more than the $125 price tag.  And the grey satin bow — sweet and sexy.  Since statement necklaces are hot right now, this is something that can be worn casually during the day and dressed up for night.  But even after this trend has been worn out, I can still see myself wearing this with an LBD to a holiday party.

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

But what goes with my new scarf and necklace?  This Rag & Bone Maryna leather jacket, that’s what.  The asymmetrical cut ensures that this look is thoroughly modern, and the softness of the leather adds a nice feminine contrast. Top everything off with a spritz of Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance, Lola, and you’ll see why this is money well spent.

Plaid…Not Just For Lumberjacks (and it’s OK) September 11th, 2009 By

fashion plaid shirtsI was shopping on Melrose this weekend when I fell victim to one of Fall’s hottest trends: The plaid shirt. Don’t cringe! I know, I know – I thought the same thing, but this season’s sweetheart is not the plaid of Seattle Grunge lore – it’s cute, it’s tailored and it’s chic. No, I’m not kidding. Stop laughing.

My shirt is a woven, long-sleeve blue plaid button-down from Christopher Wicks’ line for women, English Rose. It’s similar to this one:english laundry

Only, well, different.

I’ve seen some great plaid shirts from Victoria’s Secret, Guess, and Banana Republic. Even Target has some super cute shirts for women and men, too.

Try pairing with a white tank top and boyfriend jeans. Don’t slouch on the shoes though – you might be wearing plaid, but you aren’t chopping down trees. Consider something sleek and sophisticated, like a black high-heeled ankle boot, like this one by Steve Madden.

Beso has a great collection of plaid shirts for women and men. With prices starting at around $20, you won’t have crank up the Soundgarden while digging through those baggy flannels at the back of your closet.
