How to Wear a Pashmina February 1st, 2011 By

I’m not sure exactly how or when it happened, but somehow I’ve managed to collect a rather large and colorful collection of pashminas.  It must have been sometime in the early 2000s when I was in college that they suddenly seemed to be everywhere, and they were the perfect thing to wear on cool Dallas nights.

However, they really are the last thing I pull out of my closet these days.  A few months ago, I was doing some closet inventory, feeling sad for my lonely, unworn scarves when figured out the most genius thing (well, maybe not genius)…

If you wrap your pashmina around your neck in thirds, then tuck the fringed part out of sight, you have a beautful, current infinity scarf!  I also still wear mine long from time to time, but I’m really all about the infinity scarf right now.

The real deal:

Top 5: What’s Haute for Spring January 28th, 2010 By

- Ehmonie from Handbag du Jour

Last spring was all about leggings, jeggins, strong shoulders and studded everything.  Balmain was one designer that ruled the spring runways with edgy, distressed, punk looks and many others followed suit.  Wondering what’s haute for this spring?  Well, this year’s trends are a blend of feminine and masculine.  Expect to see much softer looks, with a much more understated bit of edge.  We’ve compiled a list of the top five items that are an absolute must-have for your spring wardrobe:

1. Scarves
A gauzy scarf is the perfect alternative to jewelry, and it does double-duty by keeping you warm.  Infinity scarves ruled the winter; now pick up a gauze scarf for spring.  Solid colors are great, but a print takes your look up a couple of notches.  Wear it hanging long, or slouchily wrapped around your neck for a boho look.  Wondering what print to pick?  Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a perfect match with the rest of your wardrobe.

2. Printed Tights
Leggings are still spilling over from last year, but this year’s choice of legwear is printed tights.  Worn with skirts and dresses, these tights are like artwork for your legs.  Choose from floral prints and stripes, to newsprint, pop art and color blocks.  Mix print tights with contrasting print dresses and skirts to take a fashion risk that will definitely pay off.

Combat Boots

3. Combat Boots
Yes, the Dr. Martens-style combat boot is making a huge comeback.  But this time, it’s much more ladylike.  The new wave of combat boots boast interesting details like buckled shafts, stud details, and even chunky heels while maintaining feminine sensibilities.  Choose from basic black to lighter colors to usher in the springtime.

Statement Bags

4. Statement Bags
One thing that never goes out of style is the statement back.  This spring, tear yourself away from black and buy a bag full of color.  A vibrant pop of color injects your look with personality and pizzazz.  And a bright leather satchel is just the bag to take you easily from work to play.

5.
Nail Polish
Last spring, Chanel ushered in green nail polish and fashionistas took notice.  This year, the colorful nail polish trend continues.  While fall was all about deep purples and vampy reds, spring is the time to shine your nails with light pastels and fun, funky bright colors.  Metallic nails are big — glitter your hands up with some silver or gold.  Also new to the scene, matte polishes in beiges and taupes.

Editor’s Picks: Baby, It’s Cold Outside November 2nd, 2009 By

Chan Luu Infinity Scarf, $125

Chan Luu Infinity Scarf, $125

With the temperatures under 40° in New York City and snow in October, I can tell we are in for one freezing winter.  I’m already craving cuddly accessories that are fashionable and warm.  Brightly-colored infinity scarves, pop-top mittens and cute berets will keep that basic black coat from looking too bleak.  The weather is dreary enough, so spice up your wardrobe with bright accessories!

Infinity scarves are made as one big loop. You can wear them draped around your neck, over your shoulders, or even as a hood.  This is a trend you can wear now and later.  Chan Luu offers a thinner scarf that will work well into spring, while The Limited has a chunkier knit scarf that will definitely keep you toasty.

I love pop-top mittens.  When it gets so cold outside that hiding your hands in your pockets just won’t work anymore, it is time to break out the gloves.  Leather gloves are beautiful when you are dressed up; but on my hectic commute, I have to remove my gloves so many times, I’ve lost more pairs than I’d care to admit.  Juicy Couture has some very cute pop-top mittens in lots of colors and even stripes!

Berets are not only for Francophiles.  They keep your ears warm and stop you from losing body heat — yet they don’t give you hat head like a more form-fitting cap would.  Berets are especially great for those of us who have trouble with static as the temperature drops.  You can even find a match for your pop-top gloves from Juicy Couture!
