I Think I Need These:
Coral Jeans
February 7th, 2012 By

Clearly, they’re everywhere…and I’m guessing for good reason: There’s something so fresh and fun about the color, and I think they’d be surprisingly versatile, whether with a crisp white button-down or a chambray shirt. The J. Brand cut looks like it might be the most flattering, but I like the deepness of the pair from Urban Outfitters. Thoughts?

Maxi Skirts: Favorite for Fall 2010 October 15th, 2010 By

I love that maxi skirts are hot this season.  As fall approaches, I start to miss my little summer dresses and dread getting dressed in the morning for the mere fact that I feel like I am wearing  jeans every single day.  Skirts just make me feel more fun and feminine too.

This jersey column skirt from LNA has a great fit. It’s not frumpy or overly tight. So if it gets cool outside I would throw on a pair of tights underneath, and no one would ever know. It comes in 3 great colors: black, white, and heather.

I would wear it with a sexy shirt,  like this one from Mason by Michelle Mason, to balance the weight of the skirt (as seen below), and some fly Miu Miu boots.

Denim Brand Review: 7 For All Mankind March 21st, 2010 By

I’ve written about 7 For All Mankind on DenimDebutante.com a couple of times, but since some time has passed, I wanted to share my latest experiences exclusively with the beso blog readers!

To start with a little brand background, 7 For All Mankindwas started by denim powerhouse Jerome Dahan (the same designer of Citizens of Humanity denim line) in 2000. Dahan and his partner left the company in 2004 (if my memory and Google research serves me right), and the brand was bought out by Vanity Fair in 2007. Around the time when Dahan left, the brand started to slip. Quality, cut and fit seemed to fall to the wayside in favor of loud designs, crystals and other forms of flash.

I wasn’t 100% sure that I would ever buy another pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans, but I gave the line one more chance and I’m so happy to say that they have totally turned the fit and design around. The brand has made a complete 180 and has come back to wear they started – traditional styles, perfect fits and innovative washes.

Here are my top 3 favorite styles from the brand:

7 For All Mankind Gummy Gwenevere in Indigo

#3 The DojoThe Dojo is the traditional flare that really made the line famous, and it’s pretty obvious how that happened. The fitted thigh, flared leg and perfectly sized back pockets made this great. Plus, for those of us who are shorter, the Petite Dojo is about a 30″ inseam, has a slightly higher knee break to elongate your legs and make you look taller.

#2 The Skinny: Clean, gorgeous and easy to wear, 7 For All Mankind’s newest skinny cut is awesome! This pair is perfect to wear with boots and a tunic… soft and simple. A definite winner.

#1 The Gwenevere: My all-time favorite pair from 7 For All Mankind is the Gummy Gwenevere Denim Legging in Indigo. They’re soft, a great length and a snug fit. The Gummy style does run a little bit small (about a half size, so if you’re in between sizes like me, go with your larger size), but it’s a pair you’ll keep going to again and again.

Curious about all the pairs that 7 For All Mankind has to offer? Don’t be! beso has all of them all in one place – everything from brand new to sale pairs – just go to their 7 For All Mankind Section and search through the different pairs to find what’s right for you!

Top Denim under $100 March 6th, 2010 By

Blank Bushwicked Denim, $67

I love expensive denim just as much as the next person (well… probably a little bit more, but let’s keep that between us).  There’s nothing better than a quality pair of jeans that won’t break your bank and don’t cost as much as your rent. What are my favorite brands under $100? Oh, I’m so glad you asked!

1. Anoname: beso has a stellar collection of Anoname, and they’re probably my favorite under $100 brand. Okay, so some of the pairs are over that (it looks like the prices are ranging from $55 to $110), but they’re amazing. Between the soft denim, hand detailing and great washes, nobody will ever know that you paid so little for these gorgeous babies!

2. Blank Denim: A brand that’s on-trend AND every pair under $90? Not many brands can pull it off, but the fabulous Blank Denim does! This NYC-based brand puts out a ton of new styles every season and they’re all a great price. I own a pair and this is one of the few brands that I’ve paid full price for because… well, full price is only about $60!

3. Cheap Monday: Sweden might be known for blonde, blue-eyed bombshells, but this Swedish brand might just change that thought! These jeans offer a great fit that has been seen on everyone from celebrities to scenesters, girls next door and style mavens… all for under a Benjamin.

Is there a brand that you love under $100? Share it in the comments and we’ll duke it out! Want more denim advice to tide you over until my next post here at beso blog? Head over to DenimDebutante.com!

How to Wear: Work-Savvy Jeans February 24th, 2010 By

j brand jeans

These J Brand jeans are the right kind of dressy

They’re your favorite thing to wear, next to those sweats you still love from college. So how can you manage to make your jeans office appropriate?

It’s easy! Here’s how:
Find a jean that looks as if it’s been tailored, with an even wash that is a bit more elegant. You want your look to be put together, so leave the rips and patches at home. Also, the office really isn’t the right place for all those sexy super-low jeans. Just think of how awkward you’d feel bending over to pick up a box of paper clips in front of your boss!

These three choices are sleek and sophisticated:

To help keep things a little more grown up, pair your jeans with a structured blazer. Consider avoiding boyfriend blazers – choose something with a more tailored fit. We’re going for sophisticated – not slouchy! Whether you love luxurious velvet, like this Elizabeth + James Lovelorn blazer or Ben Sherman’s special brand of cool, you’ll be queen of the conference room long after the whistle blows.

Finally, a classic pair of black pumps was, is, and always will be, an essential item for any smart career girl. I love these Napoli pumps by Franco Sarto. With a 1/2″ platform, the 3 3/4″ heel is manageable. The color and finish will never go out of fashion, and it’s easy to pair these pumps with just about anything – even a grown-up pair of slacks on Monday morning.

How to Wear: Wide Leg Denim February 11th, 2010 By

- Jaime at Denim Debutante

7 For All Mankind Ginger Jean, $79

I know that a lot of you are hesitant to try wide leg denim, and I understand why;  It can be quite daunting if you don’t know how to style them.  Here are a three tips that will help you out without stressing you out!

1. Find a flattering cut for you. My personal favorite wide leg style is the 7 For All Mankind Ginger Jean because it’s a great mix between fitted and wide leg without being a bell bottom or flare.

Milly Cynthia Begonia-Print Blouse, $108

2. Pair with a feminine blouse. I love wearing tees and boyfriend jeans as much as you do, but the wide leg is more of a polished look… and you can pull it off.  I love wearing silk with my jeans because of the  contrast between the ultimate working man’s fabric and something inherently feminine.  Try something like the Milly Cynthia Begonia-Print Blouse for a look that is work-friendly and fashion-forward.

3. Grab your heels! When I’m afraid that my clothing is overpowering me (which, by the way, it should neverdo), I make sure to throw on a pair of heels.  Sound contradictory?  Not really.  A good pair of heels like these Stuart Weitzman Frontpage Purple Suede Pumps will put a little extra pep in your step.

With all of these additions (as well as a kickass handbag), you’re ready to go!  Just remember: you wear the look, not the other way around!

seaofshoes’ Jane Aldridge gives us her beso January 26th, 2010 By

Jelly Garcia dress and sequin tube top from Mango

Jelly Garcia Dress and Sequin Tube Top from Mango

I’ve been an avid reader of Vanity Fair for years. And, while I haven’t quite adjusted to the absence of the beloved Dominick Dunne, the magazine rarely disappoints. The February 2010 issue, featuring photos of Tiger Woods by Annie Leibovitz, was no exception. In it, Jane Aldridge was featured as a Bright Young Thing for the work she’s done with her incredibly influential blog, seaofshoes.com.

We reached out to her to get a read on her current crushes. Herewith is Jane Aldridge’s “be so”.

What are your favorite jeans?
I like Madewell’s no stretch matchstick jeans. They have a nice high rise and a beautiful wash.

What’s your “go-to” pair of shoes for around town?
You can’t beat Dries van Noten shoes for beauty and comfort. I switch between a pair of pair of buckled leather slingbacks and a pair of yellow patent sneaker wedges at the moment.

Whose bag(s) are you carrying right now?
Currently I’m carrying a gigantic Burberry bucket bag that is pieced together with little gold rings. It was a great deal at an outlet store. It weighs about ten pounds on it’s own.

And your scent of choice?
I love Serge Lutens fragrances; they are very heavy and old-fashioned. I wear Serge Noire.

What stores are you drawn into?
Here in Dallas, I go to many thrift stores. I go to Barneys to buy shoes; American Apparel for underwear and shirts.

What color is your new black?
I like pale shades of grey green. It’s hard to come by in clothing.

What’s your favorite LBD (little black dress)?
An 80s puffy sleeved princess-waist dress that I got in Austin.

iPhone or Blackberry?
iPhone.

Ray-Ban Aviators or Wayfarers?
Aviators.

What’s was your New Year’s resolution?
To take good care of myself and people I love, and make more money.

And, of course, what’s your be so?
“be so friendly.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thanks for the interview; email or text us when you’re in town!

Editor’s Picks: Rock & Republic Men’s Jeans October 19th, 2009 By

It was definitely time for a new pair of men’s jeans, but I was finding it difficult to drop $200 on some new denim. Thank goodness for my daily Gilt Groupe email (if you haven’t gotten on their list, and want an invite, drop me a line). They were having a men’s Rock & Republic sale, selling a wide selection of denim for half-off.

Rock & Republic Men's Jeans

Rock & Republic Men's Jeans

I chose a pair of the Rock & Republic Floyd Relaxed Bootcut jeans, and I like their fit a great deal. For some reason, the denim feels both a little solid and sturdy, while at the same time fairly soft. Right now these are retailing for $218, and that’s a bit steep, but the quality is high and they certainly get noticed.

Rock & Republic also has a number of styles that are less expensive on beso, notably a pair of ultra low rise jeans for $129 from Revolve Clothing.

I’m going to keep my eyes open for another Gilt Groupe sale because I want to stock up. My one complaint about the super-cool Gilt buying experience though: they package some of their “savings” into a higher shipping price, which I could really do without.  I’ll be sticking to finding my savings on beso.

If you’re unable to get a good deal, I’ve also been loving my William Rast jeans. Now I feel just like Justin Timberlake, except for the whole dating supermodels, being generally the coolest guy in town, and fearlessly putting appendages in boxes. But there are some great deals on William Rast men’s jeans on beso. And if you want even more savings, check out the discounts on Rogan jeans, another favorite.

Twenty Percent Off (Exp 9/17) LOFT, 7 for all Mankind, Maxstudio.com August 28th, 2009 By

Did anyone catch the coupon codes that were located on the bottom of pages 79-84 in the latest People’s Style Watch Magazine?  If you said no, that’s probably because they were written in size 2 font.  I’m not sure why these gems were hidden, but I’m here to shout them out to the masses.  Ok, maybe not shout, but you get my drift.

LOFT - Ruffle Trim Cardigan

LOFT - Pleated Neck Dress

LOFT - Pleated Neck Dress

The LOFT (loftonline.com) has a ton of fresh looks for the fall season.  Some of my favorites include their Pleated Neck Dress for $59.50 and the Ruffle Trim Cardi (in gray of course) for $69.50. The best part of all, you can bank it at 20% off with promo code PSW20 at checkout.

If hip work casual clothing is not your cup of tea, I know 7 for all Mankind jeans are a no-brainer.  Practically a staple in most women’s wardrobe, these booty hugging in all the right places jeans are now yours for 20% off with coupon code STYLEWATCH.  But why stop at jeans when you can buy an entire outfit? I’m really into this Translucent Lace Tiered Cami – its part sex on a string and fem-sophisticate.

Has anyone checked out Maxstudio.com lately?  I’d say their fall collection teeters on black being the IT color and loose fitting romantic pieces.  Having gone thru their thankfully large fashion images online, my clutch wallet will open up to the black Crinkled Silk Pleated Top.  I can imagine myself pairing this blousy textural trend with jeans, leggings, or a mini.  Either way, I can’t lose with a 20% mark-down when I enter MAX917 during my checkout process.

One small kicker, these codes only work for full-price merchandise!
