At a recent Jill Stuart fashion show in New York City, Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr rocked an effortlessly sexy look, perfect for a hot date or a night out with the girls. She layered a trench coat over a white mini cutout dress, then finished off with two standout accessories – a black clutch and red hot peep-toe stilettos for a burst of color. With her side-swept bangs and smoky eye makeup, Jessica was the epitome of that last minute, thrown-together look so many women hope to achieve. It’s easier than you think to steal Jessica’s sassy style as long as you own a few key pieces from her wardrobe!

Jessica’s mini dress with sheer black cutouts is by designer Jill Stuart, but you can opt for a simpler and far more affordable one like this New York & Company frock. Its sleek silhouette and sweetheart neckline are flattering, while subtle metallic accents give it a boost of glamour.

Banana Republic’s nylon trench ($130) is the perfect shade of brown – they call it root beer float! Like Jessica’s, this trench is classic and lightweight, ideal for layering over a dress at night or pairing with a more casual weekend outfit.

How to Wear: New Year’s Eve Fashion December 29th, 2009 By

Betsey Johnson Twist And Shout Strapless Dress

Betsey Johnson Twist and Shout Strapless Dress

Now that the holiday season is coming to a close, it is time to ring in the New Year.  This year is an especially important milestone since we’re saying goodbye to the first decade of the new millenium.  Get your New Year’s resolutions ready, but first, get ready to party!

Here’s how to do it fashionably:

Cocktail dresses are the standard for New Year’s Eve celebrations, unless you are attending a black tie event.  The little black dress is the best choice if you are planning on wearing eye-catching accessories.  Your LBD can have some sparkle and flair.  The Betsey Johnson dress above is fun and flirty.  The sequins add a festive shimmer while allowing you to wear a colorful shoe, since your dress is a neutral.

If you are feeling more bold, try a red or purple cocktail dress.  Both are key colors this season.  Silver and gold dresses are also great choices paired with a black clutch and black heels.

You can pair a basic dress like this ruffled ABS cocktail dress with a sequined cardigan or a statement necklace.

If you are attending a casual party, try some sequin leggings with a long sweater. You’ll stay warm and still look cute.  A bow headband is a fun extra.

Remember to pick out a cute clutch to go with your evening outfit.  Metallics (gold or silver) and black are the most versatile.

Above all, remember that New Year’s Eve is a time to have fun and go wild.  Break out your favorite when-will-I-ever-wear-that accessory and take it out for a night on the town.  See you in 2010!

The Little Red Dress December 15th, 2009 By

Beyonce and Taylor Swift are two leading ladies that always look smashing, even under pressure in their little red dresses.  Taylor Swift paires her vintage dress with matte red lips while the daring neckline of Beyonce’s Roberto Cavalli dress demanded a more neutral face.

Red is THE color of the holiday season and a little red dress is the perfect way to incorporate it into your wardrobe.  Unless you are walking a red carpet, keep your little red dress simple and not too revealing.  Cocktail length is best for red dresses. Pair with black suede heels for a lush look.

‘Tis the season to carry a red handbag!  If you need to brighten up your drab winter wardrobe, a bold bag will do wonders.  A splash of red goes a long way.  The color is associated with power and confidence.  It makes a statement.  You will no longer fade into the background because your corporate uniform consists of black and navy suits five days a week.

A red handbag looks best with neutrals so the color can really pop.  If you embrace attention, try a bright lipstick-red patent handbag like the L.A.M.B Hawke Ceylon Satchel.  For those who are more conservative, a darker shade of red is less dramatic.

Choose a simpler style such as the Kate Spade Lincoln Road-Dee Vertical Tote.  There is a shade of red for everyone out there!  Red handbags are never out of style and can be worn any time of year.  Don’t stress over coordinating your handbag with a pair of red shoes, belt, or other accessories.  Let your red-hot bag do all of the work for you!
