Brand Discovery: Joie March 25th, 2010 By

Spring is here, and it’s got me thinking of light, comfortable fabrics and pretty new items to add to the wardrobe.  That’s where Joie comes in.  Joie clothing, founded in 2001, is all about casual, comfortable, and luxurious — their motto and mission statement.

The details are what make these tops so special, from delicate embroidered flowers to ruffles and ruching. They’re girly without being over the top, and perfect to toss over your favorite pair of jeans and strappy sandals in preparation for the warm weather ahead.

Get This Look: Cheryl Cole in Grey for Spring March 16th, 2010 By

Cheryl Cole/Photo from Zimbio

Cheryl Cole was spotted in this season’s color as she walked through Heathrow on March 2, 2010. She managed to look rocker-chic without looking like she’s on her way to a Metallica concert. I’m absolutely obsessed with the embellished shoulders on her Alice + Olivia Structured Parade Tee; little details like that really make the outfit pop. Get a similar tee in the same great color with this grey Embellished Tee by Bisou Bisou for only $24.99. Cole takes the look to the next level with some killer leather pants like this pair from True Religion. Not brave enough for those? No worries. These black J Brand jeans give the same effect. If you want something with a little more edge, try these skinny ripped jeans by Blank. You can’t go wrong with either.

Last, but not least, throw on some aviators to block out the flashes from the paps. Trust me… you’ll need them.

Beauty Talk: The New Blues February 28th, 2010 By

The New Blues

Brighten up your vanity with beauty products in shades of blue.  From sultry shadows to gentle exfoliators, check out some of my favorites among the new blues.

1. MAC Deep Truth is a classic very deep blue shimmer eyeshadow that can update the classic smoky eye by standing in for stark black shadows.

2. If lighter shades are more your style, try Urban Decay Speed.  This pale blue shadow is a great way to welcome the spring.

3. Get a mix of blue shades in Maybelline’s Eye Studio Sapphire Siren Quad, the drugstore giant’s latest shadow offering.  A light and dark blue are paired with a frosty white and black shadow to give you a range of eye looks, all for less than $9!  Even if you usually avoid Maybelline’s shadows, try the new Eye Studio quads, they are way more pigmented than their regular line.  Applied wet, they rival department store brands with their rich color payoff.

4. NARS Bains Douches is a bright sky blue glitter pencil that will take your eye look from day to evening.  Wear a pale blue shadow to work and then spice it up in the evening with a darker blue shadow (like MAC’s Deep Truth) and Bains Douches in the inner and outer corners of the eye to add some sparkle.

5. Stila Black Diamond Mascara in Blue Shimmer will add just a hint of sparkle to your eyes.  The soft blue shimmer in this basic black mascara is perfect for daytime (no disco ball eyelashes here).

6. Brighten up your shower and your skin with Peter Thomas Roth’s Botanical Buffing Beads!  This scrub has tiny round beads to gently exfoliate your body and even delicate facial skin.  The bright blue color will help you to imagine a lovely tropical ocean while you uncover the bright new skin you’d show off on that beach.

7. Marc Jacobs Daisy in The Air is a limited edition reisssue of the popular Daisy fragrance in a bottle adorned with bright blue flowers.  The perfect gift for the girl who loves floral fragrances,  Daisy has notes of violet, strawberry and gardenia.  This limited edition set includes a daisy chain of blue flowers that she can spritz and hang in her room so she’ll be surrounded by her favorite scent.  It’ll also freshen and brighten up your car -  those little green trees are no competition!

Clutch Obsession: The Chic Minaudiere February 25th, 2010 By

The Minaudiere – petite, feminine and usually synonymous with evening garb, is no longer this stylish little accessories definition. Historically known for their diminutive size and tough metal casings, these little LUX bags have been socially revered for their elegance and beauty. Today, the pint-size clutch has broken its stereotypical mold of evening only and has recently been fashioned for big style at any time of day. Of course, one can still expect to find high-shine and drama amongst the special occasion editions of these mini works of art.

What can the LUXista expect to find in the wild for day you ask? Designers have embraced this silhouette with passion by serving up a multitude of redefined versions in the offerings of embossed leathers, snakeskin and rocker chic materials, and metal stud embellishments. Keep your eyes peeled for interesting materials like fur, wood and bezel-set raw crystals. And for something on the unique side, whimsical dramatic prints can be hunted.

Below are some samplings of this HAUTE trend in handbags for S/S ’10.

Top 5: What’s Haute for Spring January 28th, 2010 By

- Ehmonie from Handbag du Jour

Last spring was all about leggings, jeggins, strong shoulders and studded everything.  Balmain was one designer that ruled the spring runways with edgy, distressed, punk looks and many others followed suit.  Wondering what’s haute for this spring?  Well, this year’s trends are a blend of feminine and masculine.  Expect to see much softer looks, with a much more understated bit of edge.  We’ve compiled a list of the top five items that are an absolute must-have for your spring wardrobe:

Love Quotes Scarf

Love Quotes Scarf

1. Scarves
A gauzy scarf is the perfect alternative to jewelry, and it does double-duty by keeping you warm.  Infinity scarves ruled the winter; now pick up a gauze scarf for spring.  Solid colors are great, but a print takes your look up a couple of notches.  Wear it hanging long, or slouchily wrapped around your neck for a boho look.  Wondering what print to pick?  Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a perfect match with the rest of your wardrobe.

3printedtights

Comic Strip Tights

2. Printed Tights
Leggings are still spilling over from last year, but this year’s choice of legwear is printed tights.  Worn with skirts and dresses, these tights are like artwork for your legs.  Choose from floral prints and stripes, to newsprint, pop art and color blocks.  Mix print tights with contrasting print dresses and skirts to take a fashion risk that will definitely pay off.

Combat Boots

Combat Boots

3. Combat Boots
Yes, the Dr. Martens-style combat boot is making a huge comeback.  But this time, it’s much more ladylike.  The new wave of combat boots boast interesting details like buckled shafts, stud details, and even chunky heels while maintaining feminine sensibilities.  Choose from basic black to lighter colors to usher in the springtime.

Statement Bags

Statement Bags

4. Statement Bags
One thing that never goes out of style is the statement back.  This spring, tear yourself away from black and buy a bag full of color.  A vibrant pop of color injects your look with personality and pizzazz.  And a bright leather satchel is just the bag to take you easily from work to play.

1nailpolish

Nail Polish

5.
Nail Polish
Last spring, Chanel ushered in green nail polish and fashionistas took notice.  This year, the colorful nail polish trend continues.  While fall was all about deep purples and vampy reds, spring is the time to shine your nails with light pastels and fun, funky bright colors.  Metallic nails are big — glitter your hands up with some silver or gold.  Also new to the scene, matte polishes in beiges and taupes.
