The Jewel Box: Bib Necklaces March 2nd, 2010 By

Tasha 'Secret Lover' Jeweled Bib

One of my favorite things right now is the bib necklace. A large, usually heavily-encrusted, decorated, beaded or bejeweled necklace that is worn high on the chest, just beneath the chin (hence the name). Glamorous and fun, most of the bib necklaces I’ve seen are incredibly feminine, even when hefty.

Elegant, sophisticated style pieces like this are about making a statement, and that never goes out of style. While the nicer bib necklaces are a little more on the spendy side, they are truly an investment you can wear forever.

Really, what’s not to love?

2010 People’s Choice Awards: The Mini Dress Makes a Bold Statement January 7th, 2010 By

The 2010 People’s Choice Awards was held in Los Angeles last night at the Nokia Theatre.  Hosted by Tim Gunn, Gretta Monahan and Audrey McClelland, it brought out a glittering cast of movie stars, TV actors, and musicians alike.  Our eye was fixed on the fashion, of course, and one trend we noticed was the sexy mini dress making a bold statement.  Here’s our roundup of the top 5 leggy looks from last night:

1. Diane Kruger
Nominee, Inglourious Basterds

Fashion darling and Inglourious Basterds star Diane Kruger wore the latest Herve Leger sleeveless bandage mini dress with Emilio Pucci platform gladiators.  Proving that winter white can be sexy, Kruger gets an A+ from besoInglourious Basterds also received an A+ from fans, as it was voted the winner of the Favorite Independent Movie category.

2. Jessica Alba
Presenter, Favorite Web Celeb Category

Jessica Alba wore an edgy structred mini dress from Antonio Berardi with a serious pair of knotted platform wedges.  Presenting Ashton Kutcher with the award for Favorite Web Celeb, we thought the dress was daring, but don’t think she pulled it off completely.  If she had opted for a sleek updo, it would’ve set off the dress better, rather than the distracting mess on top of her head.  Think Natalie Portman at the Toronto Film Festival last year.  We give it a B.

LeaMichele

3. Lea Michele
Nominee, Glee

Breakout Glee actress and Broadway singer Lea Michele looked stunning in a red mini that emphasized her curves in all the right places.  Bold colors like this one keep it light and bright in what can often look like a sea of black at these award shows, and hers from Nuj Novakhett is no exception!  She gets extra props for her matching red pout.  The cast of Glee brought home the award for Favorite New TV Comedy.  Lea Michele can also add beso‘s favorite dress of the evening to her list of awards! A+.

4. Taylor Swift
Nominee, Favorite Female Artist

Country cutie Taylor Swift sparkled in a white strapless mini dress from Jenny Packham.  Like Diane, she proves that January is a wonderful time of year for white — especially in Los Angeles!  She paired her leggy look with silver Louboutins.  We thought the look was safe, and would’ve liked to have seen a fabulous statement necklace on her decollete, perhaps something with a little color like this David Yurman Turquoise Sculpted Cable Necklace.  We give it an A-, but we doubt she’ll mind since she took home the award for Favorite Female Artist this year!

Kate Walsh

5. Kate Walsh
Nominee, Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice Star Kate Walsh was as good as gold in a long-sleeve mini dress with Casadei’s signature 3504 Platform Pumps.  I can’t seem to name the designer of the dress — so if you know I could use some help!  Regardless, she looked stunning and age-appropriate while she helped to present the award for Favorite TV Comedy Actor.  Grey’s Anatomy did not take home the award this year, but beso is awarding Kate an A for effort.

How to Wear: New Year’s Eve Fashion December 29th, 2009 By

Betsey Johnson Twist And Shout Strapless Dress

Betsey Johnson Twist and Shout Strapless Dress

Now that the holiday season is coming to a close, it is time to ring in the New Year.  This year is an especially important milestone since we’re saying goodbye to the first decade of the new millenium.  Get your New Year’s resolutions ready, but first, get ready to party!

Here’s how to do it fashionably:

Cocktail dresses are the standard for New Year’s Eve celebrations, unless you are attending a black tie event.  The little black dress is the best choice if you are planning on wearing eye-catching accessories.  Your LBD can have some sparkle and flair.  The Betsey Johnson dress above is fun and flirty.  The sequins add a festive shimmer while allowing you to wear a colorful shoe, since your dress is a neutral.

If you are feeling more bold, try a red or purple cocktail dress.  Both are key colors this season.  Silver and gold dresses are also great choices paired with a black clutch and black heels.

You can pair a basic dress like this ruffled ABS cocktail dress with a sequined cardigan or a statement necklace.

If you are attending a casual party, try some sequin leggings with a long sweater. You’ll stay warm and still look cute.  A bow headband is a fun extra.

Remember to pick out a cute clutch to go with your evening outfit.  Metallics (gold or silver) and black are the most versatile.

Above all, remember that New Year’s Eve is a time to have fun and go wild.  Break out your favorite when-will-I-ever-wear-that accessory and take it out for a night on the town.  See you in 2010!

Monthly Splurges: October October 13th, 2009 By

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red, $195

I love a good splurge every now and then.  The key is not to wake up the next day feeling guilty for my purchase.  That’s why I always make sure that any indulgence is not only worth the money spent, but also a luxury I will be able to enjoy for years to come.

This month, I’m all about neckwear.  From fabulous flirty necklaces to yummy cashmere scarves, my d©collet© is just dying to be draped in extravagance.  These pieces are all valuable investments, worth their price, and won’t go out of style.

The Burberry Skinny Giant Check Scarf in Regiment Red is probably one of the most versatile items you’ll ever own.  It can add style to jeans and a simple shirt, and looks equally appropriate worn with a jacket over a cocktail dress to keep warm.  While $195 might be steep for a scarf, wear it with a Target t-shirt and your whole outfit will still look like it came from Burberry.

Banana Republic Floral Necklace

Banana Republic Floral Necklace, $125

I simply cannot get enough of this floral necklace from Banana Republic.  The mixed metals and antique detail make this piece look like it’s worth far more than the $125 price tag.  And the grey satin bow — sweet and sexy.  Since statement necklaces are hot right now, this is something that can be worn casually during the day and dressed up for night.  But even after this trend has been worn out, I can still see myself wearing this with an LBD to a holiday party.

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

Rag & Bone Maryna Leather Jacket, $1325

But what goes with my new scarf and necklace?  This Rag & Bone Maryna leather jacket, that’s what.  The asymmetrical cut ensures that this look is thoroughly modern, and the softness of the leather adds a nice feminine contrast. Top everything off with a spritz of Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance, Lola, and you’ll see why this is money well spent.
