Pull Yourself Together: Let’s
Call Them Splotchy Glasses
January 26th, 2012 By

I’ve owned a pair of brown Ray Ban Wayfarers for a few years. The thing is, I’ve never been too bold when it comes to sunglasses because I don’t like drawing too much attention to my face. The things that come out of my mouth already do that for me. However, the other day I stumbled across a pair of sunglasses with a classic shape (still stuck on Ray Bans) that had a hint of something different: A pattern that was what I describe as “splotchy.” It was kind of like tortoise shell, or my skin after drinking a bottle and a half of white wine. Now that everyone—including my mom and all of my aunts—have the same Wayfarers as me, I figure there’s no time like the present to get out of my comfort zone and try these on for size. Maybe something louder on my eyes will force my mouth to be more understated.

Put This On. Now.:
Shady Business
December 15th, 2011 By

Before I stumbled upon Sons + Daughters, the idea of kids wearing sunglasses rubbed me the same way as dogs in sweaters. That is to say, just slightly wrong. (Sorry, Missy). But this mini-shade collection out of Canada is too cute to scoff at. Hitting the market in a couple of months, they’re stylish without being silly, and, they’re actually functional. The frames are available in prescription format and they protect little peepers from mean UVA rays. (Anyone who finds themselves strolling a miserable, squinting child beneath the bright L.A. sun or driving West around sunset knows how mean they can be.) It’s hard to say which ones are my favorite but if I had to choose, I’d say Henry would look pretty rascally in a pair of black Ferris shades. And, come on, who doesn’t love the Lola hearts for a baby starlet?

The Best Sunnies
for Your Features
July 4th, 2011 By

You’ve spotted the perfect pair of sunnies online, but when you get them, they sit funny on your face. Stick to this guide, and we promise, your purchases won’t be returned. There are six general face shapes: Oval, Round, Square, Heart, Long and Pear, each pairing perfectly with a specific frame.

Sunglasses for Your Face Shape on the Beso BlogOVAL: You’re lucky enough to have most frame shapes work, so try trendy glasses like these Illesteva Leonard Glasses which are fun and current.

ROUND: Angular glasses add sharpness to round features; we like these Marc Jacobs Large Square Sunglasses that have a slight cat eye for a feminine look.

SQUARE: Opt for glasses that are curvy to offset sharp features like this pink Vince Camuto round pair. So cute and a pretty color, to boot!

HEART: Balance out a small chin and go for square-bottomed sunnies like these oh-so-cool Ebony Rayban Clubmaster that are super retro.

LONG: Oversized Dior Sunglasses work because the large shape will make your face appear shorter and you’ll also look retro-glam.

PEAR: Go for rimless style glasses like Diane Von Furstenberg Rimless Sunglasses that will accentuate the upper part of your face.

How to Wear Spring’s Hot Sunglasses May 5th, 2010 By

Eyewear can become the focal point of any outfit and are a spring essential.  From oversized tortoise shades to matte black plastic aviators, there are so many stylish choices out this season.  Here are some useful tips for how to wear the latest styles to flatter your face shape.

Almost any style can flattering on an oval face as long as the proportions are right.  My favorite are the Stella McCartney plastic square sunglasses, as square shaped frames with gently rounded edges look especially glamorous on an oval face.

Make a Statement in Stella McCartney Shades

The Tory Burch classic cat eye frames have a curvy style that flatters a square face. Classic oval, round shape, and cat-eye sunglasses are the most flattering options.

The key to choosing sunglasses for a heart-shaped face is to balance out a wider forehead with a more narrow chin. I like the purple Carrera Dakar sunglasses.

If you have a round face, then it’s best to avoid sunglasses with round frames. Try on rectangular styles to balance the proportions.  We like the Tory Burch oversized square frames.

If you didn’t know, Tory Burch recently launched an eyewear collection with modern details and classic styles like aviators, wayfarers, cat eyes, and oversized frames to flatter all face shapes.  The eyewear brand is quickly becoming a celebrity favorite with more styles on the way.
