I’m Kate, the newest addition to the Beso editorial team. I’m a New York transplant currently living in sunny Santa Monica with my husband and two very photogenic dogs—Clementine and Noodle—who regularly pop up on my Instagram feed. Maybe a little TOO much.
I was raised in Brooklyn, NY where I spent my formative years devouring every fashion magazine I could get my hands on, cementing my shopping obsession at an early age. I took on various after school jobs (at 15 I lasted a whole four days as a McDonalds cashier) just to finance my need to own every style of oh-so-fresh Frankie B. jeans and Aeropostale baby-tees. In college, to pay my share of the rent for a comically tiny apartment (my walk-through bedroom was the size of a walk-in closet) I worked at a beautifully merchandised mom and pop boutique on the Upper East Side, which was the beginning of my education in the world of luxury retail.
After moving to Los Angeles, my education continued at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where I graduated with a degree in Visual Communications, then managed a fine art gallery in Malibu—there’s nothing like spending your day selling canvas prints to the likes of your childhood idol, Gwen Stefani. But it was when I scored a sweet gig as a personal shopper for men and women who loved fashion but were simply too busy to shop, that I truly hit the shopping junkie jackpot. It allowed me to spend countless hours rummaging through department stores hunting down the best selections to fit any budget or need. I’ve gone on near impossible missions—like searching for a mother-of-the-bride dress in a precise shade of periwinkle to match her daughter’s flower arrangements—and always come back victorious.
For me, there’s no better feeling than helping people find exactly what they’re looking for—and sometimes, things people didn’t even know they were looking for until they started looking. Luckily for me, my job as a Beso.com associate editor allows me to channel all that energy into scouring the depths of the internet for the best of the web so others don’t have to. Whether it’s a limited edition Pierre Hardy high top sneaker (currently at the top of my lust-list) or a classic white button down (sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to find—here’s this one, this one, and this one, just in case). I will search high and low to find the gems, the hidden treasures, and the-can’t-live-without-must-haves. It’s an ugly job, but somebody’s got to do it. Actually, it’s not ugly at all—it’s sorta the greatest job ever.
