things I pack for a picnic

Growing up as a punk-rock kid in NYC, COREY LYNN CALTER wouldn't necessarily call herself outdoors-y, but it doesn't mean the fashion designer isn't inclined to enjoy an al fresco meal with good friends and a great bottle of wine. And because both her eponymous line and her life balance beauty and practicality (her husband's an artist and she's mom to Stella and Sadie), we tapped her for her list of all the things that make an outdoor spread that much better.

the 10 things that matter to Nate Berkus.

  • 1

    Govino Shatterproof Wine Glasses

If you don't have these stemless wine glasses by now, run out and get them. They travel well, too.

  • 2

    BergHOFF Square Chopping Board

I love the lime edge: Such a great way to display your artisanal cheese and crusty breads.

  • 3

    Metro Basket

Start with a bang: You need a basket, so do collapsible, bright, and practical.

  • 4

    Mouse Cheese Knife Set

I couldn't help picking this adorable and silly cheese and mouse set: It goes with the lime-trimmed cutting board and will keep everyone amused.

  • 5

Sprout Home Table Cutlery & Napkin Set

This is a bamboo place setting and a napkin all in one: So fun I couldn't resist!

  • 6

    Omada Ecoliving Bowl

Serving bowls with bright inside and wood outside look great when they're loaded with foods. (I'll be putting olives in the pink bowl). They're so cute, and stack for easy storage.

  • 7

    Melamime Plates

I'm a sucker for maritime. These ship plates don't break and look great with pops of color.

  • 8

    Luminary Bags & Votive Candles

I always bring simple paper bags to put your candles in, and then scatter them with tea lights when night fails. It's such a simple way to add a DIY effect to your party.

  • 9

    MALIN + GOETZ Candle

As a rule, I travel with scented candles. I always have one in my suit case, office, and home so why not a picnic? These are my current favorite: They smell great and add a glow when the sun sets.

Table in a Bag Low Aluminum Table

Generally I like just a great blanket, but a recent outing reminded me about ants (cute but pesky). This portable table is perfect for the food while guests lounge around on the grass. I would do a fabulous textile for a table cloth.

    Woven Ikat Medallion Tapestry

I like quilts for the beach and picnics. They won't blow away and get crinkled, and they're also a great way to bring in color. This one is really cute.
