When the economy tanked in 2008, KIMBERLY HARTMAN decided to take a break from her decade-long showroom career (and make use of her frequent flyer miles) with a four-month long backpacking trip to Southeast Asia. While In Laos, she stumbled upon a tiny weaving village where the women were dyeing and sewing intensely beautiful textiles that she knew her showroom friends at home would fall just as hard for: Her gorgeous line JADEtribe was born. Kimberly still travels to collabroate with those Laotian artisans—and is fresh off a trip to Morocco (we can't wait to see the fruit from that excursion). Since she's such a frequent traveler, we tapped her for a list of things that ease her journeys.
Here, the 11 things Kimberly Hartman uses to make travel easier.
- 1
Barton Perreira Sunglasses
I have one "go to" guy for sunglasses and it is David Gonzales at Fred Segal Eyes in Santa Monica. I purchased the namesake "Gonzales" by Barton Perreira from him in Brown and Gold and I have yet to find a better pair of sunnies.
- 2
Christy's Hats Straw Fedora
Every summer I purchase a new Rafia fedora and it goes everywhere under the sun with me (protecting my blond highlights). This one by Christy's Hats was just given to me last week and I love it.
- 3
L'Occitane Travel Candle in Amber
FINALLY I have reached my destination... Spending so many nights in hotels around the world, I love to bring my favorite scent with me. The tin container keeps it safe in my suitcase, while the fragrance makes any new space feel and smell a bit like home.

DreamTime Lavender Velvet Sleep Mask
I was given this sleep mask as a gift and it's perfect for overnight flights—or really, for a good nights sleep anytime. It's soft, comfortable, and blocks out all the light, plus I love the soothing lavender scent.
- 5
Molton Brown Lip Saver
Molton Brown lip moisturizer is definitely THE product I must have if ever stranded on a desert island! It is always within arms reach.
- 6
Dr. Sebagh Rose de Vin Serum
I apply Dr. Sebagh's Rose de Vie serum in the airline lounge just before an overnight flight—it's a bit of a splurge, but a wonderful luxury. Not only does my skin feel protected, but the Rose oil is quite calming.
- 7
JADEtribe Weekender
All of the above and more fit into my go-to carry-on: The JADEtribe hand woven weekender in Indigo/White. It's roomy, light-weight, fresh, and fashionable—and the flight attendants always ask where I bought it!
- 8
Bose Headset
I go for the highest quality, most comfortable noise-cancelling headset by Bose to watch movies on my computer or to listen to music on my iPad both on and off the airplane. Instead of earplugs on flights I often sleep with these on!
- 9
Kind Fruit & Nut Bars
I'm not a fan of airline food: I usually pick up a salad to take on board along with fresh fruit to wake up to on overnight flights. Plus, I ALWAYS have KIND Fruit & Nut bars in my bag as a snack. Almond/Coconut is my fave.
- 10
Monoi Tiki Tipanie Oil
I always use oils to moisturize my skin when I am still moist from the shower—especially before a long flight. My favorite is the Monoi Tiki Tipanie Oil created from the Plumeria flower, also known as "Frangipani." I even use it in my hair to keep it silky smooth.

13" Apple MacBook Pro
My entire company is run from my Mac Book Pro, which is key, because it allows me to work from anywhere in the world. I would be lost without it.
