Lauri Kranz, Edible Gardens LA

Lauri Kranz, Founder of Edible Gardens LA

the 10
things I pack for a picnic

You'd think finding a garden oasis in the middle of Los Angeles would be difficult, but LAURI KRANZ, the green thumb behind Edible Gardens LA is doing everything in her power to make it otherwise. Kranz spends her days outdoors planting and sustaining organic vegetable gardens for some of the coolest gals this side of the Mississippi, including designer Jenni Kayne. So, we knew it wouldn't be a stretch to ask her for a list of the beautiful things she brings with her when she's dining al fresco (and as a bonus, almost everything is sourced from California).

Herewith, the 10 things Lauri Kranz always packs for a picnic.

  • 1

    Tula Lattice Gardener Hat

Tula makes hats for the garden that look great too. SPF 50 and a good wide brim. I never leave home without mine.

  • 2

    Jenni Kayne Tunic Sweater

Jenni Kayne has it all together: Beauty, style and utility. This tunic sweater is a picnic essential. Keep it close for when the weather drops in the evening, but no one is ready to go home.

  • 3

    Tortoise General Store Titanium Spork

Tortoise's short spork makes your load a little lighter.

  • 4

    Beatrice Valenzuela Sandals

Beatrice Valenzuela's shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn (the bottoms are made from old tires). I wear them out to dinner and for a walk through the woods: They're versatile and exquisite.

  • 5

New High Mart French Moroccan Market Basket Bag

I'm taking New High Mart's woven market basket bag on my next picnic and filling it with cheese, fruit, and bread.

  • 6

    General Store Wood Cutting Board

These elegantly shaped wood cutting boards from San Francisco wood worker Luke Bartells make a lovely and useful addition to your picnic.

  • 7

    Lost & Found Cedar Plate

Lost & Found is a truly special shop. It's more like four or five shops that are housed next door to each other on Yucca Street in Hollywood. Everything is meticulously curated by owner Jamie Rosenthal including these wonderful cedar plates.

  • 8

    OK Store Dosa Tumbler

OK Store carries these Dosa tumblers that are great for anything from water to wine.

  • 9

    Lost & Found Tensira Napkins

Lost & Found does it again with these indigo napkins. I want this fabric to travel with me wherever I go.

  • 10

    Commune Washed Linen Throw

Everything Commune makes is beautiful. Their washed linen throw is soft, earthy, and luxurious, and it's the perfect beginning to a picnic.
