the 10
things I rely on to green my life

She may be best remember for her days as a news reporter for MTV, but SUCHIN PAK has been busy ever since: She co-founded the Hester Street Fair, an addictively cool outdoor market for under-the-radar designers on New York's Lower East Side, and is now a style correspondent for DailyCandy, where she gets to do undeniably fun things… like report from the Golden Globes red carpet on Access Hollywood. Fashion and style aside, she's also passionate about keeping her life as earth-friendly as possible (she even hosted a show about it on Planet Green).

Here, the 10 things SuChin Pak relies on to green her life.

  • 1

Dr. Woods All Natural Liquid Soaps

One way I cut down on the number of bottles I stock is by using this multitasking, non-drying soap. It's been in my kitchen and bathroom for years. I dilute it to wash the floors; I use it to wash my hands, face, hair, laundry… pretty much on anything I want clean and smell minty fresh.

    Indoor Kitchen Composting Kit

Composting is an easy solution to clear up our landfills—and it doesn't always involve rotten leftovers. It can be effective, clean, and chic with this little kitchen kit from one of my favorite green lifestyle stores.

    Aura Cacia Sesame Skin Oil

The secret to starting or ending your day like an Egyptian princess? Organic sesame oil. It's been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries to draw out toxins in the body, stimulate the endocrine and nervous systems, and guard against bacteria.

    Keetsa Mattress

After years of ordering the "house mattress," I wanted something comfortable, affordable, clean, and durable that's not leaking toxic fumes. Keetsa mattresses not only fill my tall order, but I dare you to find something comparable at the price.

  • 5

    Baggu Bags

Biggest pet peeve? Plastic bags. There are a ton of reusable ones out there, but these are the cutest I've found. They're cheap, durable, and fold into a tiny pack, so you can stash them in your purse, glove compartment, or pocket. Really, they leave you without an excuse.

  • 6

    Solaray Oil of Oregano

I'm not a doctor, but whenever I feel a cold coming on, oil of oregano does the trick. It's a powerful natural antiseptic and antimicrobial that's especially effective in treating viral or bacterial infections. Just make sure you're getting the good stuff, because not all herbals are created equal.

  • 7

    Bamboo Bed Sheets

We spend almost a third of our lives in bed so why not make sure it's a soft landing? Bamboo sheets are easier on the environment, have antimicrobial properties, and are more durable than cotton. You just might have more trouble getting out of bed.

  • 8

Josie Maran Wildflower Argan Powder Palette

A makeup artist gave me my first Josie Maran product, so you know it's tried and true. The line is paraben free and made with precious argan oil. I love her eye shadows and palettes: They're saturated in color, last forever, and have great packaging.

    Buckwheat Pillow

With the amount of traveling I do, I've learned that a good night's rest is worth the extra room in my luggage for a pillow—I swear by buckwheat ones. They conform to any shape and weight, and are lightweight and naturally dust mite resistant. Yes, dust mites. You may want to buy these in bulk.

    Liz Earle Skin Tonic

Skin care is one of the hardest things to green, but I'd still rather not put ingredients I can't pronounce in contact with my skin every day. Lately, I've been obsessed with Liz Earle's sophisticated, all-natural skin care, especially her skin tonic.
