Elise: And today, we're going to take you through one of the pieces that everyone needs to own - the tailored blazer.

So in this first look, Diana's decided to approximate a suit. And as you can see, this isn't black on black. She's paired her blazer with a pair of cream vintage pants. You don't want to go too close in the spectrum, in terms of color, if the two pieces are not of a kind, otherwise they'll clash ever so slightly.

This next look might be my favorite. A blazer always gets the reputation of being fancy and business-like, but that's not how it has to be. As you can see, Diana's wearing it with a sweatshirt and a cute flouncy skirt. Again, this just reigns in volume, makes it a little bit more polished, but it looks effortless and cool and totally casual.

So here Diana's balancing out this long, flowing dress with a structured jacket and it's just a nice balance. She could obviously wear a cardigan, but this looks a little bit more interesting and sharp.

So here Diana's using the blazer as just another layer. And she's wearing two - yes, two - button downs. And the key is you just want to play with texture. She's got broadcloth, she's got sheer, then she's got a blazer.

And also, when you're layering, in order to not look like you're bulking up, you want to make sure that every layer is visible. So she's doing that here and here.

And finally, Diana's paired the blazer with a date-worthy, sexy dress. It has a plunging neckline, and it's black, but the blazer makes it a tiny bit more conservative and it's also a bit unexpected. It's also a great alternative if you just need a light jacket.
