Elise Loehnen: Hi I'm Elise the editor-in-chief of beso.com, the site devoted to shopping. Today we're going to talk about tips and tricks for mixing prints and patterns, which as you can see is one of my favorite things to do. So, whether you want to pair gingham with strips or polka dots with floral, there are a few things to keep in mind to make the whole process a bit easier. Don't be worried. It's simple. Try it. You'll be surprised at the results.
First, you want to make sure the items in question share a neutral background, whether, it's white, ivory, brown or black. Second, if they don't share the same neutral background, you want them to have at least one color in common. It just makes the entire look a bit more harmonious.
Third, you want to play with scale. You want to mix a larger print with a smaller one. Just to mix it up a bit. That way you can pair a big stripe with a small stripe, et cetera.
In the first look, Dianna's paired this subtle polka dot with a really low-key watercolor floral print. They have a few colors in common. They share that pale ivory and also the brown. And then the necklace, which is multicolor just pulls the whole thing together.
In the second dress we decided to throw in a curve ball and break one of the rules that I outlined. You can see these two colors play it really well together. The leopard print does not go with stripes. But, Diana's done something clever and she's brought in shoes that are of the same tone. The whole thing look is still cohesive.
In our final look, Diana's wearing one of my favorite trends of year, which is, floral print jeans. She has paired them with a striped top. Obviously, they have blue in common, but it's just a nice, graphic punch to the jeans. A lot more interesting than just pairing them with a basic T-shirt.
Thanks so much for watching. For more tips and tricks, come hang out with us on www.beso.com.
