Jacqueline Bush: Hi, I'm Jacqueline Bush, contributing makeup artist and hair stylist for Beso.com. Today I'm going to show you how to do a cute messy braid.

Jacqueline: OK. So doing a cute messy braid is a great idea if you have day-old hair or just it's not looking that polished or pretty and you want your hair to still look cute in a hurry.
One thing that you need to remember is that you need to have some texture in your hair first. Our model has a natural wave today. And it doesn't feel too, too soft, but just to make sure that I rough it up a little more, because that's going to keep the braid in place, I always do the front bits at the end, just in case I have a little too much product on my fingertips. And I'm doing a little bit at the top of the head, too, to create a little bit of texture, because part of the thing with a messy braid is that there needs to be a lot of natural movement already going on in the care for it to have that kind of undone, effortless feel.
So now what we're going to do is we're going to take the hair over to one side. And as you can see, I'm just using my fingertips. I'm going to comb this back a little, just to rough that texture up, as I spoke about before.
We have all the hair on one side, and maybe even some of it we want out a little bit. And now we're going to take the hair into three sections. Using your two fingers, you're just going to go into the hair, dividing it into three: your front section, your middle section, and your back section. Notice how some hair's even down below. It doesn't really matter.
We're going to start at the back, crossing over the center section. So now the center becomes the back.
Now we're going to take the front section and loosely cross that over the center section. Again, repeating, back over center, front over center, back over center, front over center, going all the way down, till we hit about here.
Now we're taking these little baby rubber bands and we're going to secure the base of that braid. Here's the next quick tip. What you're going to do is loosely and gently pull out the braid a little bit with your fingers. Notice how that loosens the braid up and brings some of that messy texture out.
So now we're going to just work on this part that's a little bit messy. I notice when I pull in just slightly, that looks better, but leaving some of that messiness on top. So I'm going to take a U-shaped pin and I'm just going to pull back a touch of that hair.
So now what I'm going to do is I'm going to take this end, and to cover this rubber band, we're going to take a piece of hair from underneath, and we're going to wrap it around. And I'm going to secure that with a bobby pin, so it looks like this. Taking my bobby pin, I'm going to slide it into the rubber band from the underneath side and then through the braid, so you won't see the pin, and then I might spray it in place or I might just leave it.
